Just extend from the bottom and they are fine partially closed

no just pull out what you need from the bottom . if u are getting a pair there ok for inspection but if they get brick dust on them it makes them hard to pull out and use

I used mine to get down a well (dont ask) and within a week they were stuck solid

I wouldn't trust one of those "collapsible" ladder's as far as I could spit.

They are fine, no worse than a pair of steps. To fold up unexpectedly multiple safety devices would have to fail simultaneously

Watch your fingers when sliding the sections coming down and make sure your will is upto date

Guess I'm just a dinosaur, but thanks, I'll pass. A conventional ladder does not require multiple safety devices, so none to fail.

Reason no.4 to hate plumbing: "going down wells"

handy for inspections on property's and have them in your car boot but thats about it. and over priced

Multiple safety devices? Two little clips under the rungs don't really fit that description.

If you catch one of those clips whilst climbing it the whole thing can, and will, collapse back into itself.

Having used 2 pairs for many years we are going to have to disagree on that

I have one to hold up one half of the roof tent. It gets extended as needed to get the correct length to get the tent base level - that could be closed at one end or part way sometimes. Used it for 5 years now and its never collapsed! It folds up when we close the tent up and sits on the top under the main cover.

Watch out for the weight limit on them, if you're a bit chunky like moi there's certain bits of equipment like steps and folding chairs which ain't going to support you.

No it can't, I have checked. I use one daily, and hate rickety ladders. But other designs may be able to collapse, I suppose. Best not to buy one direct from China I guess, but there are millions in daily use with no more issues than standard ladders.
I am no Parm type expert but probably fewer accidents than normal ladders, because more care is taken?

I was dubious with the one for the roof tent initially but time has proven its good. It supports the section our legs are normally on when sleeping but we have to move across it. There are tow of us in that tent - prob 160kg combined.

I've had two different versions of these: one set (unknown brand/second hand/cheap) were lethal.
The set I bought (on a recommendation) from Screwfix are *excellent*.
The "giant"? brand ones from Costco look even beefier.
