Prices for mild steel

Are there any good sites for getting an idea of a target price for mild steel from a stockholder? I usually go onto the Parker Steel website to get an idea of prices, anyone got any other suggestions of a good way of getting the target price?

I dropped an email to a new local stockholder to me and they came back with
£25.50 + vat for 40x40x3mm SHS (7.5m length)
£10.05 + vat for 16mm solid round (6m length)

Do these seem like reasonable prices to you? Oh, and because they are only a mile or so from me they will do free delivery too!

These prices seem to work out better then Parkers, especially as Parkers want £50 for delivery!

£9.60 less 15% prompt payment + VAT, when I bought 11 lengths end of November. They're a local family run outfit, and I'm diy/project, not commercial.

I always find that because prices vary between suppliers, and often depends on what they have as stock, what they paid for it, and if they are common sizes or not, it is always best to ring a couple of places to find out the going rates.

We are trade, so obviously get discount, but pay around 17 quid for a 7.5 length of 40mm SHS and 6-7 quid for a length of 16mm round bar. Free del, plus VAT. Depends on quants - paid as little as a fiver a length for 16mm round when buying it by the bundle

Free delivery will probably offset high material prices for small orders, so I'd just use them - especially to support a local company.

Yes, it's worth it, the place I use opened up on a saturday morning for me, when they would have been shut, as I couldn't get out of work during the week.

They said it was because I didn't have an account with them... I am registered online with them, so can look up prices, don't know if that isn't enough to get a better delivery price. I also don't know if it makes a difference that I am just a DIYer, so not ordering loads on a regular basis!

The company I got the quote from was MetalMart. They are fairly close to M27 J5.

Looks a bit like metal supermarket (also very close to that location). Probably pretty pricey.

Regarding Parkers, you can be a DIYer and still order from them. I never paid more for delivery, even before they knew I was a business. I would try to negotiate the delivery price with them, that is outrageous. (Or just go with the local guys) Al.

I have used metal supermarket before very expensive!

I was expecting the quote I got from them to come back as a lot more... From Parkers website it is £244.62, and from these MetalMart it is £203.25.... so this time seems cheaper than Parkers.
