We were out a walk on the beach years ago, the kids were wall under 5. We came on a seal pup. It could barely move on the sand. It was very aggressive even though we were probably twenty yards away. Not a beastie I would want to tangle with.

Most kept a respectful distance mostly because (a) they're wild animals and (b) they've a lot of big teeth !
Then some stupid bint got bit ( how close do you need to be to get bit ?) And tried to sue the council !
All fenced off now and wardens keeping everyone safe .

Stumbled across some in NZ, pretty well camouflaged amongst the rocks on the beach. I made a sharp exit when I noticed them, they've got a fair set of teeth which I didn't want to make contact with.

This post reminded me : I was sailing a small yacht near Harwich, and it was attacked by a huge seal with tiger strip markings.,It didn't touch the boat, but kept jumping out of the water and splashing down about a foot away, so the water pressure hit the yacht. It was like a car crashing into the boat repeatedly, very loud, I was half expecting to sink from damage.Don't mess with the males
