12v toaster?

Has someone actually asked if he can have some toast? I think you need someone to go in and find a friendly healthcare assistant and I would be amazed if they did anything other than make the man some toast in an instant if this is a hospital in the UK. Having family feed patients is a 3rd world healthcare system, if you can't keep a patient fed with the basics then that speaks volumes - it's hardly an exotic request!

the child like portions served up to you dont even get me started about the jelly in a small tub 2 1/2 spoonfuls and its gone

none tasting crap how the hell you can get jelly so wrong i will never know

never mind the halal meat you get suplied with as some dont like the other way of killing them but you have to do

Toast is a staple of any ward, for staff and patients, always toast on the go.

As for suggestions of bringing in a toaster it gave me the fear!
I work in estates at a hospital and quite rightly the toasters have a special plug so they can ONLY ne used in a specific socket, in the pantry, this socket is also linked to an occupancy sensor that shuts off power if you leave the vicinity of the toaster. So many fires started by toasters. Not to mention the massive fire risk having a heat source in a ward with piped oxygen! The hospital i work at has had a fatality due to relatives knowing better and sneaking in a lighter so someone could get a crafty fag, oxygen saturated bed sheets don't take much to go up.
Gather you weren't going to bring the toaster into the hospital, but the comments are horrifying and I pray tongue in cheek

I had a week in hospital about 2 years ago now......the food was quite good and a big choice

I endorse this ^^. I spent 6 weeks in isolation in one hospital for a stem-cell transplant and couldn't fault the food or choice. Then a few individual weeks in another for acquired infections inc pneumonia and again couldn't fault the food. OK, it wasn't perhaps your personal choices for the menus, but the meals would have been nutritionally balanced and worked to a per capital budget.

No complaints here, I even took my GP to task then he commented adversely on the hospital food, he was a bit surprised......

It will be stone cold by the time you get it from the car to the ward, may as well buy the ready toasted stuff.

Is it the RD&E? My dads spent several weeks in there at different times in the last year or so, he didn't think the food was bad.I remember when my wife was in having our kids and the nurses seemed to be offering me toast all the time.

When I was in the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough,, A "Trolley Dolly" came round at breakfast time and made me fresh toast at the end of my bed, Perfect service

Just buy a 230 volt toaster and take it to him.

The nursing staff won't give a hoot.

Why go 12 volt ?

anything that plugs in yes even if its a plug in transformer with low voltage output

have you seen any of the output leads with the inner cores of cables showing and short out . then can burn the transformer out as its not fused and basicaly plugged in to a 32 amp supply . specialy the ones from china bought of the market and not approved

Get them to make some in the hospital cafe downstairs (there usually is one) and sneak it onto the ward in a bit of tinfoil? Sorry state of affairs if this is the case, I’ve fond memories of working on a dementia ward as a Porter / tea boy and would basically rustle up whatever tea or toast the patients wanted at any hour, much to the annoyance of the nursing staff who had a strict regime.

anything taken in to the hospital or some public buildings has to be pat tested before it can be used .some allow external testing some dont and has to be done with the electrical maintenance department . the hospital isnt insured for people with there own equipment not tested needless to say as you should know what the consequences are if theres an accident . might sound petty but heres the test PAT Testing a Phone Charger - Parker Bell (Instruments) Ltd (parker-bell.co.uk) basicaly a visual test against damage and a class 2 insulation test
