Literally just made my account here after doing my first ever weld. The tutorials available here are so valuable and I’d like to thank whoever wrote them up.
Anyway I’ve just had my first crack at welding and i’m currently trying with gasless, flux core wire with a ROHR 200MI welder.
apparently flux core is more messy and not as easy by nature anyway so i’ll be ordering some gas soon and will be doing it that way.
For now though i’ve been using .9mm flux core wire on 2.5mm steel just to practise laying welds
heres what my bird **** welds look like
(had the wire too long at one point hence the broken off bit)
I’ve been trying to weld at the 30° angle and with the nozzle as close as possible to the metal.
wire speed at 3 with power at 4. Looking at these awful welds could anyone recommend what settings should be changed/tried? I know i need to practise a lot more but any heads up on settings would be grand
p.s. am i welding too close to the positive clamp? could that be a potential issue?
cheers
alright i upped the voltage and have it looking better
(second pic)
upped the wire feed as well and that seems to have made an improvement
although the bead seems a bit tall? or is that just me
