Sorry all. I've posted previously re refurbing my ancient sip migmate 130 or getting a new unit. I've had some really helpful responses thanks but I'm not sure whether I need to post under the original thread or their replies etc so sorry if I'm breaking etiquette and or revisiting things I should have read elsewhere. I'm increasingly thinking that instead of looking for a mig unit I might go for an stick and tig unit. I have possibly irrational hopes of at least trying tig and it seems some of the combined stick tig units allow for really much more "refined " stick than I could ever do with my tiny two decade old Cosmo 100a unit. I've kind of accepted that my sip migmate 130 which I've nurtured on flux cored is a bit of a crop unit but I'd previously thought that having mig capability was the best option for a diy er doing garage jobs. Now, having read loads on here and scoured the ads I'm wondering if I should ditch the mig and go for stick and tig. My only concern is that I do have a one off aluminium job in mind and, in terms of my skill set, I'd love to weld some aluminium which I believe I could not do at all easily with an mma/tig digital unit unless it had an ac tig option. Appreciate I've probably already driven people mad with a repeated question but anyone with the energy or knowledge to reply....would be very grateful. My budget is max 400 I can pay for gas over and above that and justifying the full 400 is a little contentious.
