The peculiar feature is the spongey bark.
I think it’s a Red wood, known as punch trees
Is it close to the house? Looks close on that LHS 2nd photo
That seems rather extreme, most insurance only asks about trees closer than (iirc) 5m. Ours are further but if the nearest came down the wrong way it would land on the house! Is it close to the house? Looks close on that LHS 2nd photo
I have trees and I get warnings from my Insurance about trees closer than 25m

Something about a big tree you gotta admire...
It would have to be very close to a house for me to want to destroy it (something older than me and of great beauty).
Maybe if we all went out and planted one tree - somewhere/anywhere - the world would be a better place in times to come. I know this sounds a bit wet - but there maybe some truth in the statement.
(This is coming from a chap who has spent all this morning with the "weedkiller of doom" in his van - spraying properties he owns - killing everything/everywhere)
About 5/6 years ago I planted a sequoia sapling at the top of the garden, it was about 18" tall. It's around the four metre mark now and doing really well, once it becomes visible over the roofs I'll get a tree preservation order on it. I reckon that'll be my carbon offset for a couple of generations.Something about a big tree you gotta admire...

If we hadn't used most of those big oaks to build the Royal Navy, we'd all be speaking French!Murderer.
