i'm laying beads on 3mm mild plate, 5 cup with 1,6 tungsten 85 - 90 amps 6lpm \0,5 sec pregas\6 sec postgas argon stream: using no filler the beads seem have good appearence, ( nice shine tracks) but when using filler rod (1,6mm mild steel) they are dull and not shine, also tried with stainless filler rod: same situation; the rods are new, with no visible oxidation (but i did not cleaned further before use)
i cleaned the plates with cellulose thinner, then sanded to shine metal with grinding wheel (it's new metal)
i double checked for gas leaks, looks like all is working as intended
in this phase i'm concentrate to achieve consistence in running straight and regular beads, so not concerned so much about this, but would like to know where is the problem with the bad color\appearence of my welds
