I live pretty close to a steel place and worked near one so i kinda know the sound that the company makes

theres one hell of a difference to sheet of steel falling to the ground to plate steel falling to the ground

sound through a built ship is different

Thanks for them, and i know theres a difference with each item falling, the sound it makes etc. But rubber on the floor as i have proven with the basic tests i have done does most definitely dampen it, as you are not getting the hard contact Concrete to Metal type thing. Anyway, ive ordered a dozen of these floor mats and going to try them. I think it will be a blessing in disguise as i say. but just have to see.

Buy the mats...take pictures etc...even if it doesn't work you have tried to improve the situation which will count when it comes to the council.

I happen to think anything that is flexible will reduce the sound substantially when it comes to metal hitting concrete.

Chicken farm. You could point out you will be raising 40,000 chickens in that there shed, if the boat business get kyboshed.

Shetland and farm divesification seems completely acceptable from a planning view as hes building boats for fish farmers, and also works on tractors etc in the same workshop.

Rubber mats on the floor in winter will be a real bonus.

They're a hardy bunch up there so that's a secondary consideration.....
