A. ( x + 1 ) ^ 2

What was that saying...knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit....wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad!

There is more than one correct answer to the original question; it depends when you were taught maths.
I have seen this exact format of question before on the internet, it is designed to annoy people.
If using brackets makes it clear,,, then use the f~<>*+ng brackets!
If it was put in front of you in an engineering context, the correct answer would be, 'This question is ambiguous, so it be dangerous to continue until a proper question is asked'.

Flippin' 'eck, you're old BODMAs was introduced in the 1600's or the 1800's depending on who you believe - possibly even the ancient Greeks

There's thousands of these things, they always have some intentionally vague symbol like the cherry or the shoe so there'll be a few different ways to interpret it, before you even get to (Pointlessly) arguing about the order of operations.

Yea I draw the smiley face...then just multiple the bits and add them up.

There is a way to do long division of polynomials...it's like long division with numbers but they replace the numbers with algebra.

I did pure and applied for my degree....but that was a very long time ago and I've forgotten most of it because I went in a different direction after uni.

This one can't be answered.

Because L shoe + R shoe is NOT the same as 2x Lshoe or 2x Rshoe. So Lshoe != Rshoe
