And "." to show multiplicationI never understood why they didn't teach brackets right from the beginning in school...and also everyone uses "/" for divide so why don't they just teach that too!
15 + (4 * 5) ....a lot clearer to me!
its just not quite as '' fruity ''.I never understood why they didn't teach brackets right from the beginning in school...and also everyone uses "/" for divide so why don't they just teach that too!

Type it into a calculator.
'nuff said. Over.
Damn it, I typed that in and got 35, but in my head, it's 80.If you put the equation, as written, with no brackets, into a proper scientific calculator, you will get the correct answer (35)
If you put parts of it into a simpler calculator, individually, into a linear fashion, you will get the wrong answer.
If you try typing the sum into Google as a whole, Google will apply brackets according to BIDMAS and then give you the correct answer.
There is no choice about where the brackets are added. It's rule based.
It's just a convention that prevents people getting different answers to the same question...using a different order isn't "wrong" it's just not following the standard convention that everyone has agreed so the answer isn't the same.I missed Algebra, why can not the problem be solved as written? Why is there an Order of Operations?
Damn it, I typed that in and got 35, but in my head, it's 80.
Did they say why? I say 80 which is not good for you as I often get these type of things wrong. LolOthers are saying 35
Very good....knowledge vs wisdomThe real answer is
