Passed my City & Guilds Level 1 on Monday

Thanks to Crawley College but more importantly to this forum !

I'm going to start part 2 after the half term

Well done I started the C&G level 2 at night school a few weeks ago. Great fun suddenly having to weld vertically! A whole new ball game. Think I got my head round it and cracked it this week. I'm not only enjoying sticking metal together, I'm enjoying learning how to do it properly. Enjoy level 2 and more power to your elbow.

We start Arc Lv1 this week I dont get on well with arc.....

Then its Lv 1 and 2 Tig hopefully all done before sept 2010 so we can start Lv3 Tig

I'm going to stick with the Mig for the time being, off this week comming, then its half term so I'll start level 2 the week after.

Once thats done, possibly by Christmas then I can't start level 3 till next September Perhaps I should have a go at level 1 Tig, what do you reckon ?

we need TIG for our job (food factory) but i do think TIG is a good skill to have.

did it cost you anything ast crawley to do the class? and is it like once a week one night?

Level 1 courses are £190/ Process which is 10 weeks one night a week 3.5hrs
Level 2 courses are £200/ Process which is 10 weeks one night a week 3.5hrs

Now passed Level 2 MIG

Next week i'm going to start Level 1 TIG

Still haven't plugged in my new Portamig , job for the Christmas break I hope

now the fun starts and his should seperate the men from the boy;s

but tig is much better than mma or mig but it take a hell of alot longer.

and i would say borrow a length of wire and pratice feeding it through your fingures, you need to be able to do this without thinking about it.

I started stripping the beetle the other night, looks like the frame head has gone too

Seems there's quite a few people from here studying in Crawley.

I've completed the MIG level 1 course this year, and next year I'm either doing MIG 2 or TIG 1 - still undecided.

The course, college and tutors were better than I had expected, I have no complaints at all

The equipment is top notch (at least compared to my own clarke 135te) and you get to play with other tools, such as band saws, grinders, guillotines etc, so it's more than a welding course.

Once I completed my test pieces, I got to play with other processes, so for the last three weeks I was playing around with MMA and TIG.

Brilliant course, in my opinion!

I have done three beetle restos now and one of them had a rotten frame head its not too difficult...

I have finished level 1 in both MIG and ARC at Crawley and as everyone else has said the staff and equipment is excellent, i started TIG Level 1 and my god is the wire feeding doing my head in.....

I did my MMA lvl 2 in 19 weeks,My MIG lvl 2 in 15 weeks and my TIG lvl 2 in 8weeks

The MMA and MIG were Back to back in the same year at college tues and thurs nights 30 week courses(first and only student to do it also the last as they will not allow you to do it any more)

And the Tig course 20 weeks I now hold the college record for the fastest pass,,, Not bad considering I never even touched a Tig torch before

I have all the easy jobs to do on mine, heater channels A pillar bottoms, a floorpan...
