Anyone noticed how much old CB radios have been selling for, an amstrad 901 in the box never used went for around £200, think they were about £20 new in the day

I could probably get my current rig running Mesa via SCSI with a bit of effort but having a small dedicated pc built into the rack is a plus.Yes, and people getting all misty eyed talking about them, and saying a new £200 cb is no good, when in fact they show how tech moves on

Though I've noticed over the last year I've been collecting synths and samplers. Midi implementation sucks these days in comparison to the older gear.

Midi over usb works well thought I still prefer din.Midi has been terrible for a long time, last decent card i had was m-audio i think, pci with a breakout cable and proper hardware implementation of midi. Not really used it since but usb to midi was terrible when I tried

I'd even go as far as to say land rovers are bloody awful motors

It's horses for courses, I have a 40 year old GSX1100 and I'd happily commute daily on it now, but carting half a tonne of gear might be a bit of a challenge. On the other hand I certainly wouldn't want to use a 40 year old Ducati to commute.
I'd love to have a 400e Thames, but then I realise that it's actually much nicer when you aren't deafened by engine/transmission noise, there is a radio, heating when cold, air con when hot, blue tooth for the phone, you rarely break down, fuel economy is good, nothing needs adjusting along the way, and you can still walk upright when you arrive.

Couldn't imagine wanting to do the same on a matchless/James etc though.
I was a little tongue in cheek but I wouldn't trade my motors in for classics.
How do you get on with the tough book? Need something for in the truck to have manuals etc on.I run a Toshiba CF-52 Toughbook purely and simply because it runs XP-Professional and has a genuine serial port. I use this to run 'Step-5' a package that allows me to communicate with the inbuilt PLC in the Siemens CNC controller of my Beaver TC-20 lathe.
I have a cupboard full of retired old laptops going back quite a while if anyone is desperate - they mostly work but likely have had their hard drives removed for security

Was looking for an old iPad but they hold their money and are pretty fragile.
