My Defender has not been used since last August due to my spinal surgery and cancer treatment. I have now got it on SORN and am unlikely to be driving it for the next 6 months.
So advice would be appreciated on how best to look after it?
It will be stored outside and I had a few thoughts:
1. I have been starting and running it for 10 mins every few weeks just to keep the battery charged. It has an oversize small truck battery fitted - good idea or not?
2. Should I put it on axle stands to prevent flat spots on the tyres?
3. It will have done about 500 miles in the last year since its last service, next service is is due in June, as the parts are so cheap I am tempted to just do the usual full service - engine, gearbox, axle fluids and every filter (I can get a Mahle kit of all filters for under £20) Worth doing?
4. Leave it in gear with the handbrake off - though I have not had a problem with the transmission brake ever jamming on?
5. Leave the windows open on the odd sunny day to ensure the interior does not get moldy?
6. I am not too worried about rust, the bulkhead, chassis and lots more are galvanised and box sections sprayed with noxudol cavity wax and underbody coating.
7. Anything else to do our consider? - the vehicle is my pride and joy, I would hate to see it degrade while sitting.
