Lots of questions, to follow.
I've been asked to help build modify a boat trailer.
Couple of caveats, this has nothing to do with the company I work for and for the sake of argument won't be used on a public road. That avoids many question 're legality.
To try to explain this better I've done some drawings.
It's a big skip truck trailor, rated at 30 ton payload, and it needs cutting and lengthening.
It also needs the axles chopping in the middle and widening? But I'm not sure this is the best way forward.
It needs turning from a flat, to a swan neck trailer.
I should have taken loads more photos, but I'll be back tomorrow to do all that. And measure everything.
The brothers I will be working for have no plans, for it, it's a make it up as they go along. They don't do cutting or welding.
We have all the cutting and welding gear on hand.
Let's show you some drawings...
What's the best cut to lengthen a chassis, strengthening plates will be abundant.
Final question (who am I kidding?), They've a 320 amp mig, and a 350 amp arc, I've already said I'd prefer to use the arc, as I know my welds with an arc, and am less sure with a mig, although I've never had any problems.
Thoughts please folks.
I weld up 10-12 mm steel plate with arc for 12 ton boat pulling / pushing and my welds have never failed, so feel confident in my welding and cutting skills, but this is quite a big project for me.
Thanks.
