Just about to post the same link - seems to all be above board. Meanwhile her party chimney is leaking and she’s scared to have the work done in case it upsets them.

I’m wondering about sticking a bat box up on the tree. Might discourage tree surgeons from quoting in future, there are bats about.

Letting neighbours know is the decent thing to do, even popping a note through the door at the very least.
Some idiot down from me needed builder access via my drive, rather than speak to me she left it to the builder to let me know and negotiate moving vehicles about, not a please or thank you after the hassle - what an asshol

This probably all got rolling many years ago...if you let people take an inch then before you know it they are up your tree giving it a trim.

These things are best nipped in the bud straight away I find...thats why every street had a few grumpy gits that everyone stays away from I reckon.

your snookered my neighbor has conifers and a few trees along my border. i never asked i just topped them off and sliced the sides off parallel with the fence he never said owt and we get on well with each other

We have a chain trencher and get asked to install a fair bit of root barrier along boundaries.There is a very fine legal line between what's acceptable to protect your property and what would be deemed the illegal act of killing a neighbours tree, especially if its an established tree.

yep cut the roots on your side on a decent size tree and it could topple over in high winds or kill it

the worst trees to have close to a building is poplar trees or weeping willow the last one smashes your drains to find water the 1st gets to high and breaks in high wind

I have both....the street is named Poplar so you can imagine.........Ive had to re-route the drains because of the willow......so now one of them is taking out a wall and the fence

Spring is the wrong time of year to prune any tree, as it stimulates new growth, and also can cause sap bleeding. if there are any active bird nests in the tree it is illegal to disturb them in the nesting season, which begins in February. Get in touch with your local wildlife officer at the council, or the wildlife police officer if you have one. It is a criminal offence to disturb nesting birds!

I'd be careful with that one . Owner would have to prove there were nesting birds there [inc species etc] before the work started and I'd suspect that'd be impossible now. Also, if relations were 'strained' before, they'd be toxic afterwards - I'd be less than impressed if someone set the Police or other Authorities on me without 'just cause'. I doubt they'd be interested, given the circumstances - they'd regard it as a civil matter in the absence of proof of bird nests.

On the pruning matter, afaik, technically limbs/brash etc should be returned to the property owners, or at least offered to them. This would be the last thing the OP's Mum would want as she'd then have to get rid and by the pic it'd take up most of her available garden space. She'd then have to pay to have it taken away, cut up to stack for firewood or chipped + removed.

Most folk forget that roots extend beyond the canopy to roughly/min 2 x the diameter and could be damaging foundation/drainage etc [as said by @gaz1 above].

Proceed with caution, would be my advice.

im lucky got good nextdoors and they both got small trees in there gardens but pay to have them trimed every year im not looking forword to if new people move in and nothing get done both are more elderly people and the house is realy made for larger familys
