Hi everyone that's not going to become a rant , but just wanted to share what I've seen this morning on a TV transmission .
Essentially they interviewed some employers .
They all said the same thing , they struggle to find employees .
My first thought while watching the interview has been "ask yourself why?"
All them continued saying.
Young people don't come to ask for getting a job here , they think that it's too much fatigue .
Can't understand why it's so difficult to find young graduated formed experienced workers nowdays ...

Then while asking about how much they pay, how many hours,what they ask to do and what are the requirements to work with them ....
Every single one said that they don't overwork ,underpay etc etc as to justify or find an excuse because no-one wants to work with them.

Things here are strange , government doesn't allow everyone to work , you can't even touch a screwdriver outside of your property, you can't help someone even a friend because it's undeclared work so you're going to get problems with the law.
You can't work for over 30 days year and can't get more than 5000 euros without opening a company.
But remember you can't because is undeclared.
Have a company is very expensive.
Have an employee is expensive.
In all that government gives money to stay home without doing anything.

And essentially employers seek for first ladies (because there's no other way to call someone who has graduated with his parents money without having worked a single day of their lives) which do prefer to stay home in front of a PC.
Because they are covered.
And who really wants and needs to work ,and can do way more better than those persons is just garbage for the employer .
Just an overview of how things are going over here .

Interesting post. Regarding the working outside of your home, I heard some years ago that if you own a boat, for example, you are not allowed to do any work on it. On one hand the governmaent seems to be protecting jobs while on the other they create a situation where no one wants to work

It's no different in this country. Destroy, or allow to be destroyed, significant parts of your manufacturing base, remove practical subjects from the curriculum and teach Jenny and Johnny largely irrelevant 'trendy' subjects. Then when you decide that you might need some skilled labour...

The Global Free Market, in my opinion, is pretty much a disaster for everyone, except the fat greedy ******** who get rich at everyone's expense

We have an advert up for assembly staff was £18k a year and is now £20k they had 5 people arrange interviews two turned up

one chap is in his 50’s the other is a jack the lad type that won’t stay

we just can’t get people in, it’s clean work just boring

we have just had three other staff leave for better paid jobs and Iv been given a pay rise as there frightened they will loose me

There in lies your problem, boring repetitive work.

As a retired bus driver, I worked one route for the last 7 years, but every day was different.

I started as an apprentice motor mechanic, but it was the same work day in, day out, so I went over to crash repair fitting (strip out, and rebuild after panel & paint work), enjoyed it but did not pay well even in the1970's.

So I applied to London Transport as a bus conductor, after 4 years went driving & retired after 38 years.

In a nut shell. Im so glad Ive been SE almost all my life, Im like a caged animal when ever Ive done any PAYE. Not only that it pigeon holes you. I've done so many different types of work in the last 40yrs as I ve not been constrained by someone elses narrow mindedness.

But then Ive lived by the saying. If you wake up in the morn and your first thought is F--- its work. It's time to change your job

I think I will be looking to go self employed in time to come. Work less hours & enjoy life more!

Working lots of hours for minimum wage isn't for me forever

If you believe its going to give you more time and when you want it, you're in for a surprise. Been PAYE means you turn up do your bit and go home, there's other people employed to get the work and mae sure its there for you to do, AND get paid for it. When you are SE you have all that to do plus your 'own' work.

I am trying to get a job which I practically don't know anything because this way hopefully everyday will be something new to learn and different , despite the fact that I'll probably pass the days removing chips from the machines beds .

it’s not hard work, it’s indoors, clean, not dangerous, loud nor dirty

they can’t do one job then another as it’s the same work day in day out

basically they either brush or apply a special coating to aluminium or brass and glue in led lights and a plastic diffuser the work changes from the shape of the product but that’s almost it in a nutshell

problem is they won’t pay any more as it doesn’t warrant more money for how much work they can do

It’s about finding the right person. They are few and far but some people like repetitive things but most prefer at least a bit of variety. You get people who have done decades in the same factory doing the same sort of task but not for me. Takes all sorts.

There is a culture of always on 24x7 availability now, be it just answering a few emails at home or putting in a extra hours gratis in the evenings and weekends. I routinely clocked up 60+ unpaid days extra a year. More when we had big projects.

There is a misconception that PAYE means you clock off and you’re done, likewise people assume that if you are self-employed you are your own boss, which again isn’t really the case. Some customers are far more trouble than any boss!

If you choose to do work outside your agreed hours, and not have it recognised then more fool you. Yes I know it is expected. But its only expected because people roll over and accept it. You want me to do work you pay for it.

edit ; to add, I count admin while SE as a cost atributable to the job in question and work that in with the bill. I also 'adjust' how much I charge based on hassel factor, the need for money, whether I want to do the job. If I think I might not get paid for sometime after works are complete, then I insist on structured payments.

End of the day. You dont get anything for free in this world. Apart from been taken advantage of.

Having been more SE but done both you’ve hit the mail on the head there.

If you’re SE you often have many bosses, to whom their issue is the most important!
