You do want decent steel toe caps when using one of those! Never heard them called that, but very descriptive, no idea what the real name is.

I've lent out a 1 tonne block and tackle , it hasn't been brought back and now that I need it , I can't remember who borrowed it !

I'm an idiot for lending it out in the first place !

Mate thought he engine hoist had been stolen . . . roll on a few years and the person who he couldn't remember lending it to, brought it back . . .

No, it’s because the chances are , when you get them back they are worse for wear. I for one have no desire to bat in front of sticky wickets....

Borrow plenty from my dad but it always looked after. Gradually equipping my own workshop. Two post lift is my next big plan, its not practical to borrow dad's

I definitely have tools I could do without, but I'm not sure if I'd get rid of them! I often buy tools on offer or secondhand so the chance of being able to buy them for the same money again if I found myself unable to borrow are slim.
I also consider purchases on the basis of will they pay for themselves?
The tools I could do without, in my mind, have already paid for themselves so why not keep them?

Sure, luxuries like a plasma cutter don't meet the same criteria, but I don't have any friends who own one and I got a good deal, if I sold and then hired one more than twice, I'd be 'down' on just having kept it.
