15mm pipe fitting to washing machine

Friend called me panicking - bad leak from back of washing machine.
Pipework is a nightmare and so is access.
I tried to reuse the speedfit fittings but just couldn't get the threads to grip properly.

There is a bare 15mm pipe - ideally I would like a connector that the washing machine flexi pipe can screw straight onto.
Needs to be something I can get locally in Screwfix or similar.

Are some of these brands of fitting easier to use in tight spaces?

John Guest do a push fit with the washing machine thread on one side I believe

I saw that one thanks - but been struggling with those speedfits. Could be the old connectors are worn or whatever but access not easy - are there any nicer ones to use?

I am suddenly an expert on this, having moved a radiator at the weekend...

Two things I didn't know, which might be of help:

1. You need to have inserts fitted in the pipe ends for a good fit: JG Speedfit Superseal Plastic Push-Fit Pipe Inserts 15mm 50 Pack | Pipe Fittings | Screwfix.com
2. The push fits also need to be hand tightened to get a seal:

Twist until the collar mates with the mid section.

For the cost of new couplings, I'd buy new along with some inserts.

Its going onto copper pipe.
I think I may just fit a traditional tap straight onto the pipe - at least I can get some proper leverage with a spanner then.

If it's going onto copper, a standard compression washing machine tap from screwfix is what you want. Smear of something on the olive, tighten...

Pipe might need deburred then - which sounds a difficult task from what you describe.
I'm with Hugh then - a copper pipe will be more forgiving of an olive and compression joint - then I'd bring it out to something more manageable, maybe put a tail on it so that it's easier to fit whatever fittings now and in the future.

If your struggling with getting the push fit on. Use a pipe slice to take 5mm off and try again. They need that little chamfer the slices leave.

1/2" and 15mm are basically the same size and are interchangeable. 3/4" and 22mm is a different matter that I only found out about on a sunday afternoon...

For compression fittings you need the correct olive, something the previous owner of my house didn't know. Which is why the radiators lift off the pipe work without tools.........

I found something similar 10 years ago under my newly purchased house . . . no issue with the 1/2"/15mm . . . but an unstoppable leak on the what I know now was 3/4" . . . I quickly learnt about olives to fit 3/4 pipe to be used in new fittings.

I have a stash of 3/4" olives in my plumbing box but I've almost completely ripped out all the old stuff now!
I also had grief with 1 1/4" (I think) doing the old gravity feed from the boiler one Sunday afternoon I've learnt my lesson now

I've moved to 16mm alpex for everything I plumb up now.... Call me European but it is just 100x better than regular speedfit

15mm or half inch both the same its only 3 quarter and 22 mm that are diffent

just as easy to fit a push fit tee on and fit a bit of pipe in and washer tap on the end of it
