Don't use it much, Could borrow it?

I'm looking to have another clear out of stuff that I currently have in storage & it crossed my mind

Is there things which you own, That you don't use often & could borrow?

My current items straight off the top of my head is: Air Compressor & Plasma cutter

the way people treat stuff isnt like me

to those that are trusted and will replace i would consider letting them use it

however when its your own brother who you should know better to replace stuff or even rent the damn thing fail you, why should you bother

and yes im in the middle of it and he knows im on the war path about it as well

he dosnt own it and wont repair it when it finaly goes faulty with his usage so why should i lend it or even try forcing the rental costs for repair when hes already failed

A lot of my gear sits there unused for weeks at a time... press brake, rolls, MIG set... but the point of me buying them was so that I wouldn't have to borrow

One exception to this was the 2 post lift... that was sold when I realised I hated working on cars!

I have a set of tools that I lend out as they are cheap rubbish. I don't lend anything else and do not borrow either! If I need it, then I get one. If it is for a one off job, I usually buy a Silverline but it goes in the 'to be lent' box afterwards!
I would rather do a job for a friend than lend them any tools. One exception is my BIL as he is very diligent and if he damaged something he would replace it with the same or better!

I don't have many options for people from whom to borrow stuff to be honest, so I lend stuff way more often than I borrow. I am quite picky about what gets lent out though and how carefully I check it when it comes back!

My father used to live quite locally, so I borrowed stuff off him all the time (and lent stuff to him as he would look after it), but now he lives over the other side of the country I've been gradually buying things that previously I would have borrowed.

Yes, and it works well up here. Only in a selected group though. Sometimes it's borrowing or lending tools, other times it's small jobs.

The last one was making a spindle adaptor for a vibrating roller that had had its engine changed. I've now the use of it if I need it.

Now that makes perfect sense! The Outer Hebrides is probably one of the places where that is essential. Where I live, you don't tend to talk to neighbours and if you did, their mate would be nicking the thing being asked for while distracted

My neighbour Tom and I regularly borrow each other’s stuff; he’s a retired landscape gardener and has everything you could imagine, including a huge range of ladders, step ladders and hole digging tools. In return for using these I do anything technical he needs - he can be a bit hard on his tools - and help him chop and split firewood, etc. It works well for both of us.

There are a select few i will lend tools to, they are people who respect them & wil replace if it gets broken without being asked.
Apart from that i dont lend anything.

I agree i don't let people borrow anything I won't mind replacing....
But it would be nice not to have to move the floor crane every time I want to open the front doors of the workshop, but it is very useful when I need it

I kinda regret, in some ways, getting an air compressor and plasma for the little use the plasma has had. Do have a couple of air tools (die grinder, finger sander and gun) and in all honesty its the gun that gets most use!

That’s not long, my son has had my circular saw for must be over 3 years

I lent a couple of post-hole-digging tools to my next door neighbour about 6 years ago. To be honest, if he gave them back to me now I wouldn't know where to store them! He does at least admit that he's still got them, so hopefully I can get them if/when I next need them!

If I needed it I tend to buy, if I borrow I always make sure it goes back in as good or better/cleaner than I got it.
Loaning tools is a minefield their are only one or two I lend to, One friend & I have keys to each others workshops

i have a big diesel one with forward and reverse people ask to borrow it to go over there block paving err not realy unless you want all the blocks to break and get stuffed 6 inch under 4 people cant lift it its that heavy
