Carbon Fibre Sheet

I’ve got a carbon fibre sheet about 1m2

now idea what flavour it is but it’s cooked to a flat sheet

I want to cut two strips off it about 60mm wide each

what could I use, I have a router, circular saw, jig saw and grinder with slitting discs

ideally I want them as neat as possible

Use a mask when cutting it and some sort of extraction like a vacuum cleaner

Ive used one the these discs when cutting carbon fibre arrow shafts Diamond glass cutting blade

Use w fibreglass blade as it won’t delaminate the sheet and clamp it as tight to the cut line as possible with some thicker strips to stop it shattering:delaminating from then jigsaw blade

Sandwich it between ply and treat like wood, but with extraction

Bosch makes a jigsaw blade for cutting carbon fibre. They may be a bit pricey, however.

As mentioned above, clamping some strips close to the cut or sandwiching the sheet between some sacrificial plywood will help reduce delamination and rough edges.

Have you been skip diving in the local area ?

I have always found abrasives best on the carbon fiber , I have found toothed cutters no good at all.

I've used the "sacrificial plywood sandwich" approach for cutting resin-bonded fiberglass panels with good success.

On a related note, I use a similar "sacrificial sandwich" clamping technique for cutting steel cables, sandwiching the cables between two blocks of wood for cutting the cable without fraying. Here are a few photos showing how I cut some cables for a dock cross-brace setup. I managed to get several cuts out of each set of wooden blocks before the groove in the wood from the blade got too wide. I think it helps to use hardwood for the blocks, and a very snug fit to the cable is also important.
