Replacing some seals on a Ford autobox, the front seal is a biotch to get to, none of this ‘flip it out with a screwdriver’ stuff. So, I had to get jiggy with it and manufacture some type of puller. a

It was obvious someone else had been there before me, judging by the state of the face once the seal was out, various dents and chisel marks on it.

New one installed.

Today I made this move. New machine coming Monday so needed it moved today. About 1.5-2t, lifting eye on top is m36 and about 3kg itself. Chinese engine hoist did admirably when combined with steel rods and 6ft pinch bars. Machine is dangerously top heavy but no incidents during moving so a good day all in. Even better the bit on the right was destined for the scrap man but is following me home instead

Looks similar to the input seal on a Jag diff. I drilled a couple of holes in the seal, wound in a woodscrew and used a slide hammer to pull it out...

I was worried about getting swarf inside the mechanism, so I daren't drill holes.

Filling, and mounted the three xt60 connectors in some 6x20 alu bar and will epoxy them in.

used this trick recently on an international tractor injector pump shaft seal, saved taking the whole pump apart! a bit fiddly but it did the trick!
the lad thought his tractor was totally ******** when it started spewing diesely oil out the breather, god knows how it didnt run away!!

Self tapper in. Claw hammer and out.

Then placed the new seal in ice salted water and push in.

In the old car repair books, on cars, I have show that method a lot.

In your line of work you have plenty of co2 extinguishers to fire at them. That method of cooling has got me out of a hole more than once.

It lowers the temp of the ice further. Never head of it for inserting seals though - I would be worried the cold, stiff, inflexible seal would be damaged being dragged over the shaft. Lubrication and careful application of drifts, presses, tools is how we do it at work.

The biscuit barrel fills up with crumbs.
I save them up.

I also get some cheep chocolate.

So.



Reduce the to crumbs.

Melt some chocolate, in this case, flakes and Cadbury dairy milk.




Had the biscuit crumbs.

Spoon out, allow to call and count not the calories.




This weekend is few days of small jobs, on many projects.


This was cleaned up by hand, with coffee and flap jacks.
The Flap jacks are not all for me, but it did keep my friend quiet for a while.




Yes it does work.



The red is as close as I can get to OE spec. From a modern rattle can.


That one was from a recent bundle of 6 I acquired.

Here are the 5 I had left.

The one with the LED bulb has been sold.
Good money was received.






I only have one left.

They all work, the ones converted to LED's lights can be converted back to blow torches. If the new owners wanted too.

why ice salted water?

Of course, you use lubrication.
Dry or on rubber seals petroleum grease.

Never damaged one yet.

On some emergency generator sets. the seals on the crank have a hours run life.
Some times it is easy to pop em out and slip new one in with out dismantling.



Now watch the next one I do, it goes wonky big time.

In the process of completing these two. Couple of uprights to fit a shelf to on the vice stand, (¾" rod, threaded ½"), & decided I'd make a new taper pin for the vice out of brass/bronze, (not sure which it is). Still deciding on the head design.

It didn’t seem to matter what way I stacked these crates, whatever I wanted was always at least 2 crates down, so a length of box and a length of angle later and I can get to anything with relative ease.
Only a temporary location until the extension is complete.
