Best simple free editor I have found.
Its superb for batch processing; renaming and resizing, etc.!
Gimp is hideous, anyone who says it's the same or better than photoshop has frankly never used photoshop
I pay for both Lightroom and Photoshop, rarely use PS but lightroom has enough basic editing abilities as i like to get it right in camera, It is mostly used for the storage and indexing of my 110k+ photos
Perhaps so...
Nobody here has made that claim and, assuming your Photoshop and Lightroom are legit, perhaps you'd care to share how much they cost you? The OP was after free software...
I appreciate Parm wanted free but honestly gimp is hateful, I suppose I could take the time to learn it but it just doesn't do it for me. Its B&W conversion ruins 99% of photos, edge detection on things like hair is terrible and cloning for scratch removal is so bad it would be easier to retouch the actual negatives
I pay £9.98 per month, for Adobe, I don't use the storage or cloud based apps, just installed software on a couple of my PCs
When you have 110k+ photos it's worth the money to keep them organised, they range from small jpegs, through camera raw and all the way up to massively high resolution scans of medium and large format prints, my biggest single file is over 10gb and gimp couldn't even open it last time I tried
It has been years since I've used GIMP and I do agree that it isn't very, umm, aesthetic! Yes, for someone in your case it is worth the cost for quality software. As I work in education I get access to the Serif suite for free, not that we use all of it, including the new Affinity suite - which I gather is quite potent.
I'm intrugued by Seashore that @Gritineye has mentioned but his link shows only an OSX version and we don't know whether @Parm has a PC or a Mac.
I was just pointing out its actually pretty terrible software.
