Just about giving up......

Some might remember posts of mine about building a light box with LED strip to display a pottery item. Well, I bought a switch like this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SmartSwi...e=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 and set about wiring it in accordance with this diagram which appears in the listing

However, my soldering skills are woeful and after getting all the connecting wires done with appropriate terminals....nothing!!
If I ignore the switch and connect the battery direct to the LED strip it lights up. I've tried all the options and, in case some of the joints weren't making good contact, have continuity tested them all. They're not pretty but seem to be passing the test(s) fine.

It's now driving me to distraction [after weeks of doing a bit, then coming back to it ] and it'll soon be getting introduced to to Mr BFH! A LONG shot but would anyone who knows electronics be prepared to wire it & get it going for me in exchange for beer tokens? I could post the switch, wires, appropriate new connectors and battery holder along with postage to cover return etc.

Help please if you can, it all looks straightforward but this is really getting to me...........

I saw the switch light flash once when I was probing the various terminals, but don't ask me which ones now.

I've just rewired a motorbike from scratch using a set of relays so this is stuff I'm familiar with but I can't get my head around your wiring diagram.
Happy to give info if needed but it sounds like you've got a better offer already

Looks to me like "power supply" and "device" are the wrong way around on the drawing, as in the device is the battery and whats showing the battery is the device. Get @sako243 to take a squint.

Enough easy
You will need to use only 2 terminals on the switch (+ and - should be for the switch light)
Use Common Terminal called C and the Normally Open one called NO .
Use those to open the circuit on the POSITIVE wire from the battery to the LED strip

Hello Slim boy fat,

that circuit can only work if there is a switch in the device to operate the relay.
As a test if you disconnect 4 from C and connect briefly to NO, that should operate the relay and bring the lights on, i.e. it connects NO and C?
The text does mention a switch on the device, and if that doesn't do anything and the test I suggest does, then that switch is faulty or not connected correctly?

I've got it !

It took several attempts to get my head around it but now it makes sense (remember this is an illuminated switch not a relay so the wiring is different).
The trick is realising the circuit diagram uses the switch to break the lamp earth circuit, I'd guess the lamp always lights when you put power across the switch + and - terminals
For the illumination: when turned *On power flows from battery+ to switch+ (then through the "bulb" to light it) to switch- to (via link wire) switch C to switch NO to battery- which completes the circuit.
When turned *Off switch C and switch NO are not connected so the circuit breaks / illumination is off.
For the device / load, the diagram works as you'd expected.

I think you're right - push and the strip LEDs come on along with the switch illumination, push again and everything goes off. At least, that's what I assumed when I ordered the switch. A little knowledge is indeed a dangerous thing - at least I've been messing with DC, otherwise I could be toast....
