I'd take that plate off, PDQ, and make yourself up a new one.

Does winchboy have b+e? cos if not, GVW of his vehicle + GVW of the trailer needs to be sub 3.5T - so you'll need to replate to match his licence.
I'm assuming that his vehicle is rated to at at least 3.5T MTW - if not, replate to match the vehicles max.

Without a plate, and no other obvious markers, then plod will take the tyre ratings when assessing "construction + use"

Supposed to. I agree with the above to be honest. Take existing plate off. Do your sums and stamp new plate to suit.

I'd get it weighed - borrowed a very similar looking trailer off a mate a while ago - my Lancia really noticed it behind when empty, way more than my own larger Brian James trailer, weighing 350kg according to the BJ plate.

It really, really noticed it when the nearside wheel studs snapped and the wheel exited stage left - he'd fitted Fiat wheels to it on its tiny UNF studs - PCDS didn't match, and they simply fatigued and snapped - luckily when empty and I was only doing 20mph around a bend on my back road home, rather than rather more on the bypass earlier..

It’s like a half piece of tube you flip over and yes you’re right. It’s a manual reverse or something but not sure of proper name

if its manufactured after 1982 (not sure with this TBH) then it has to have a weight plate.

Does anyone know when 50mm hitches took over from 2" in the UK? I'm guessing early 70s with the other metrication?

Plates held on with self tappers, looks like an ebay replcement blank plate thats been stamped up on a scaffold plank. I would get onto the manufacturers and get a genuine replacement, the numbers seem wrong unless you have 420kg hanging off the drawbar.

Hi, I suspect 'S J Cook' is a previous owner who stamped up the plate and not really understanding. I think the 890kgs is the payload which added to the 540kgs UW make 1430kgs, so 30kgs for the noseweight. What is the hitch rated at and the tyre loading number? Because that's what the police/DVSA will look at as well.

It has a plate so that is what they will use.

They will nick you for overloading the 1 axle if its over 890kg.

BUT it does need the MLPM marking on it.

MY advice is remove that plate as it effectively reduces your trailer to a 890kg one (plus nose weight).

Either replace with a correctly stamped one if you can find the real axle limit or just replace with the MLPM.

I have a phone number for the maker but we suspect they have closed as no web site etc

I did not know about them. Reversed my dads trailer quite a way. He was not happy. I was only about 13 mind!

Doubt that is 1 Ton as looks like an old small caravan chassis that has been turned into a trailer
