£70 council fine

Just been reading that the government are mulling over giving local councils the right to fine motorists £70 for minor traffic offences (like veering into a bicycle lane.).
Given the questionable antics of our police force in enforcing Covid ‘regulations’ by fines, as they used to say on ‘Yes, minister’ “Is this wise minister”.
Given most local councils are blessed with an over abundances of petty burocrats & the need to make up shortfalls in their council taxes revenues, indeed the question needs to be asked “Is this wise Minister”.

the wifey used to work for the police as traffic warden she got on well localy down yarm with residents and shopkeepers and was lenient with it . the councill took over parking and sent 3 guys down every day for 3 weeks and hammered everyone they made a killing . she was at a meeting and they worked out on the money they made that they would rake in thousands a year bad news for them was everone cracked on they were a pack of b //s and no one parked so they were loosing money we see the odd one evey few days now and they have finished 6 of them only a couple left now

The local councils in London have already run a muck with stuff like this. Blocked roads, no entry signs, no right turn , no left turn of course if you're a cyclist you have a tax free run of the place. Madness that is crippling London.

It was the same when I lived in Wantage, we had Sandra, a traffic warden not to be messed with, but she was also kind and sensible as long as you didn’t cause an obstruction, but if you did, or pulled up in a bus stop, you got both barrels!

We had some work done on our house which had double yellow lines outside - she let the builders park there for three weeks before she told them they were taking the p.

I think we can expect a ruthless hammering from any government, council or police department capable of harvesting penalty cash, very shortly it will be "C" payback time.

Got a £30 fine for driving in a bus lane in Cardiff centre once - at 8.00 at night! I was lost, looking for a car park, looking at signs - up in the air, bus lane marking on the road. Total con - the streets were deserted almost.

Not just London, Edinburgh has been at this for about 30 years now.
A lot of it was invented by David Begg who was formerly Transport Convener for City of Edinburgh Council and who was behind the Edinburgh Congestion Charge farce.

i think before my time is up , you will register a credit card to the car , cameras will dish out fines as they see fit , no street parking etc , soon as you stop gps reports where you are and billed by the hour to park , billed by the mile to drive , go 2mph over another bill and so on

I've not been into Huddersfield Town center since Meadowhall opened and retail parks opened nearby together with a new Morrison's over 25 years ago; the town councilors made matters worse a few years ago introducing bus lanes now they are doing their best to close the few remaining stores by closing even more roads to traffic only catering for non road tax paying and non insured cyclists. The cyclists can have my share of space in Huddersfield because I've no intention of ever visiting the town center again;

It was rumoured a section of road works locally were funded/paid for by revenue from the average speed cameras set up in the contraflow
I dont suppose its hard to generate a couple of grand an hour from this, it was there for months and they only installed some barriers

Kirklees council are so strapped for cash they can't afford rubble skips at our local tips but can find £200,000 for "Street Art" when Huddersfield already has more than enough street art with it's thousands of road signs; they can find £millions though for cyclists who are above the law closing roads to ripped off motorists; what would it cost to repair a pothole on the busy road running alongside Huddersfield Royal Infirmary?

Just leave our local Morrison's; Aldi and home bargains alone where I can park free of charge without paying a £60 fine; Covid isn't a problem to us we shop online for anything we fancy; the way things are heading there will soon be plenty of parking spaces in Huddersfield Town center but only for cycles and no stores to visit; if I wanted to start a business I'd bee looking at opening a cycle shop?

Huddersfield Town has an outer ring road which is as near as I'll ever get to the town. Oh what fun it's snowing again; all I want is to have it warm enough allowing me to get into the workshop without the need to wrap up like an Eskimo but I can dream on.

I don't even know why I bother to moan about Huddersfield Town center.

It‘s a pity Cambridge council will turn a blind eye to the cyclists on Hills Rd that ride in the road ,beside the very expensive cycle lane , with a massive queue of traffic behind them . If there is a cycle lane cyclists should use them, they are , after all is said and done, built for their safety

tips are another joke...limited opening times , cant dump this , cant dump that ,cant bring a van, then pat them selves on the back that theyve reduced waste ....yeah folk just hoof it in the hedge instead , if tips were run right , open long hours when needed would stop a huge amount of fly tippers

Councils services used to represent value for money before they were run by bean counters, over paid out of touch councillors and embroiled in HSE bull. They all need to replace the thousands of overpaid chair polishers with on the ground workers and restore some of the basic services. If every chair polisher removed could pay for a few men pushing brooms ,using a shovel or repairing roads Britain would not look like the hit hole it currently is.
