How do u get Pretty colours

But how do I get the colours on stainless.

Currently using a ck17 with 1.6 tungsten and a cheap stubby gas lense kit from amazon and about 6-8 lmp gas.

1.3mm stainless 1.2mm 316 rods

I get nice shiny silver welds wich I know is the goal

Turn the gas down a bit, or up too far, or angle the torch too much, or up the amps.

Generally once a bit of heat gets into the workpiece, it keeps the temps high enough after welding, to oxidise after the gas cover has moved on, and you'll get the colours.

Lol 100% not into fishing for likes on insta.

I made a peice for a skyline converted s14. Just a box to hide a boost controller but would of been nice with some colour.

So basically I need to weld wrong to get it to oxidise.

It's a natural occurrence with some joints and configurations and shielding setups, especially when it's thinner metal or you're working with plenty amps for good penetration But yes, ideally you avoid colour.

TBH anything is fine bar grey, which tells you you've cooked the metal too hard.

you can play with colours quite easily by very quickly pulling the torch away and back again in a waving motion, or sometimes i mess around with colours on non-critical stuff by blowing at it lightly during the post flow, which will blow the shielding gas away and introduce oxidisation (colours)

You need clean material, higher than avg gas flow, gas lense ideally, slower movement along the weld

Or weld it up normally (properly!), give it a polish and then hit it with a blowtorch afterwards
