OK this feels exactly like the right place to be asking -
Early last year a young cat arrives in the street. It has a collar ("Please do not feed"). Lovely friendly thing. Nov/Dec the cat is spending all day laying on our windowsill, but no collar and looking worst-for-ware.
Enquires as to the cat owners drew a blank: I fed her & bathed her wounds!
I've tried contacting various agencies regarding microchip checks or how best to deal with the cats obvious skin condition without success.
I have applied a flea product and tested her beding for bloody deposits: so far nothing yet she grooms herself so much that she is removing fur.
Any advice - offers to rehome (seems to be toilet trained and loves laying on your lap purring)
Having had more than one female cat appear at black o’clock in the morning through the cat flap, the site of both my ‘boys’ do the moonwalk in slowest of slow motion, I can vouch for this ‘respect’. For whatever reason, over grooming not normal.Do you have an electronic stud tester? If so, give her a sweep over with that, it will register a microchip, and the vet will get the owner details for you. Sadly, many folk do not microchip their cats, and just rely on collars. I hate collars.
Thankfully just found a place that isn't quoting emergencies only and have her booked in for Monday.
I've tried calling some vets locally in Dec without joy - Perhaps I'll find one now the festive season is over.
I hate collars.

Mines always in his little cat bed, although I suspect its more to do with the red blanket, wherever it goes he goes
