Jointing car window rubber

Hi everyone

Can anyone suggest or recommend some kind of adhesive for joining the rubber seals round a car window?
I need to make two mitred right-angle corners for my Austin A30 and nobody in 'Austin land' has any ideas!
The seal is new, but it comes in a straight piece and I need to cut 'n shut these corners.
All suggestions welcome!

Is black Bostic still available ? For that is what I have used once or twice to seal joints in window strip, clean the excess off with paraffin before it sets.

Perhaps some spray on bitumum underseal would suffice spray ot on a bit of card and then use a spatula to transfer it to the job to keep things clean.

Sometimes we used Evostick yellow impact glue but you often get a milky white residue left over that turns yellowish and flaky .

If you need to glue it rather than seal it but have no tension on the strip ... we used to make large " O" rings from neoprene round bead and once cut at the correct angle by using a simple jig to cut both ends at once with a Stanley blade cutter( just off 90 degrees ) we used super glue to butt the ends up

Try and experiment just make the cuts clean and straight by using a new blade for each cut

What about the black strip mastic that windscreen fitters use, seems to be made from the same sort of material as self amalgamating electrical tape, I'm sure this could be put between the cut ends and would bond to the window rubber and form a really good seal

Gorilla glue is waterproof,but dries a yellow colour,so would nead to be dyed black when dry.

It's called Sikaflex, you can get cheaper alternatives like Tiger Seal as well or any PU mastic will do the job.

The "splice your own oring" kits come with a special adhesive which sounds like it would fit your application really well.
I must buy a refil for my kit, its always the adhesive thats first to run out

A good quality Cyanoacrylate (superglue) will do it. You can get a special rubber superglue from RS Components, gives a slightly better bond rubber to rubber. Don't use the pound shop stuff - It truly is rubbish!

Just make sure that the ends are clean and as close fitting as possible, use the smallest amount of glue possible, and hold in position for 20-30 seconds. Don't 'test' the bond for 24 hours.

never thought of that. used one of them on beloved's car, stuck my hand very effectively to the boot.

I think I'll try Sikaflex first, it will be useful for some other glass-related leaks I have.

Has anyone tried moulding it to make small bumpers for doors etc?
