Why will it cost £75.00?
I fill in the form (online) myself. If its a vat registered customer, thats the only change. If its a retail/end user, we use DPD to deal with it and back bill to us. Costs £8.50.
Anyone paying £75.00 to come upo with a commodity code is being robbed.
All the UK pallet networks are charging this.
Also the European hauliers
It is not for a commodity code!
It is to prepare and file the documents. There are also security documents to be filed.
There are 2 main ways of shipping using Inco terms.
Dap and Dpp.
A lot of hauliers are insisting on people using Dpp which means that import and export paperwork needs to be paid for before shipping. This is where the £75 comes from.
Why are they insisting? Because if someone in say Athens refuses to pay the customs paperwork the goods have to be brought all the way back to the UK which gets very expensive!
We can ship goods to Europe or Ireland for say £30 DAP but then we run the risk.
Either way the shipper and recipient will end up paying an extra £60 to £75 on paperwork charges.
On an £88 pallet to Belgium thats almost double the price!
