I'd go with bandsaw every time. I'm lucky as mine is a decent size one. The guy I bought it off replaced it with a 3-way(?) compound one. I'd have that in a heartbeat. As you say, just set them going and leave it to it. Mine also has a stop so you can do repeat cuts quickly but that's an easy add on for anything reallyI had a rage evolution, top of the range one, had to go back to a band saw. Noise was terrible, and cleaning up equally as bad, it sprayed chips everywhere. Blades also expensive. They last well until your workpiece moves then they're trash and your £50 down! Much prefer my band saw, slower but you can set up and get on with something else.
Another vote for the bandsaw, 50mm solid round too big for evolution saws, might get a couple of cuts before the blade dies.
well the one I have is nowhere near as noisy as the Clark I had with those black blades takes a lot longer to cut and sparks everywhere they don't cut square they are rubbish, in my opinion, the one I have i know is quite noisy yes buttt its only a few seconds compared to the Clark took forever to cut as for chips it's great you get a few but most go into the tray and I just empty it I know which id choose any day for a great square cutThe rage Evo 355 makes loads of noise spreads chips of steel everywhere but is very quick compared to the bandsaw.
try doing it with a hacksaw hahah would take you 6months hahahahI cut up some 3" x 2" solid bar using a 9" angle grinder a while back. It took me at least a couple of hours and I went through two discs. The finished cuts weren't particularly square but that wasn't an issue and by the time I finished, my arms were aching. Next time it's a bandsaw.
no room for error using a still saw damn dangerous those things area stihlsaw with metal cutting disk in . cut through loads in no time
I've cut 50mm solid round with no problems and 70mm solid square. Mine is not an evo but there cannot be much differenceI cant justify a band saw for this occasional work.
Theres a youtube vid where hes cutting 90mm dia solid round in an EVO...surely 50mm rd isnt then pushing it?
