Its a shame but we have to face the fact that aside of production for the home market just about everything can be bought in cheaper. My mate used to invariably fit new machines and crate up the old ones for export, for over a year now and the whole of next it’s just removals for export.

My old work place had a 8ft Morgan would cut 6mm no problem. Always serviced, the place closed down and sold all there gear on wish i had thought twice that 6 years on i would start up on my own but I didn't have a crystal ball. Haha

Not at all its for a guillotine, i cut 3mm sheet steel on a daily basis but its to slow with a plasma. I've been looking for one for a very long time and trying to do my sums but I think the company needs one for our line of work, would like to pay for it over time instead of a big chunk to start with.

Have you looked at using a evolution circular saw/track system for 3mm sheet instead? Lower capital costs/higher running costs but depending on your work it may be worth a look until a suitable guillotine comes up s/h. Quicker and better finish than plasma.

Are the evolution circular saws quick cutting 3mm? Ive never used one to be honest. What's a track system? Its for cutting sheet for rubbish skips thats 90% of what i do.

You'd save time mostly in the cleanup as you'd get a cleaner edge with the saw compared to plasma. The track system allows for a straighter edge as it is clamped in place before the cut starts and gives greater accuracy with less faff. The biggest downside compared to plasma for you as far as I can see is the blade cost, I don't know how long they'd last, I've always used mine with a mix of materials.

The bend and shear machines are okay but they can be fickle.

A good Pearson, Keetona or Morgan mechanical guillotone can be had for £2-3k.
Hydraulic guillotine a little more. There’s not a lot to go wrong with them. Auto backstops tend to cause the most issues, rarely square or the right measurement. Pushing a sheet in too hard tends to knock them out.

Absolutely, no need to finance one!
£3k is nothing really, not when you're working for yourself and time is money. If you know you're cutting metal every day, then you'll probably save on average 10 minutes per metre cut compared to plasma and cleanup... Even if you're only saving 10 min per day, at £30/hr that's a 3k gilly paid back in just over 2 years, and in reality it's far cheaper to run than plasma.
All it needs to do is cut metal cleanly. Backstops etc nice to have, but certainly not necessary... I've never had a working backstop on mine
If you don't have a spare 3k, then bank loans are probably the cheapest and easiest way to go IMO

I have used Machinery leasing finance in the past and I can tell you a few things about it. The person making the real money (Porsche GT3, that was the clue) was the person arranging the leasing finance. The actual owner of the machine will have a very large and comprehensive contract with a carefully laid minefield of Do's and Don'ts and liable to be dropping by at the worst possible moment. You will be working for and on behalf of these people first and foremost, your profit margin will be slim, almost translucent and God forbid the machine breaks.

It was £1.25M quid though and I had mislaid my wallet so had to go down this route. I wouldn't ever do it again, there are easier ways of making money, Male Prostitution springs to mind.

I have an evolution metal specific circular saw it cuts through up to its max of 6mm like it was butter. Though I'm not sure if it can be used with tracks. This is the one I had but seems to have been discontinued its a good saw for the price. Doesn't work with tracks though.

This is its replacement doesn't look as though it works with tracks either but it looks similar to the home owner grade all purpose one they do that works with tracks.

These all purpose blades cut steel pretty well I have found as I have the small rage chop saw that uses them quite fast but not as fast as the metal specific saws. Because they are almost identical and so cheap you could give the home owner one a go if its not fast enough for you get the metal one but change the foot plate over from the home owner to the metal grade saw so it can still be used with the tracks. From what I can tell both saws are identical apart from the foot plate.

yep, at a small company I worked for, the boss was easily swayed by the flash slimy toad that worked for the leasing finance company . In the 5 years I was there , his monthly payments rose from around £1500 a month to over £28k for the various machinery, vehicles etc that he talked him into leasing. When it went quiet for a few months, it all went belly up, as that along with the wage bill meant the reserves dried up pretty damn quick.

I will get one of these they are cheap enough that if it isnt any better than plasma its no big deal, plasma is OK but i find it slow when cutting a ton of sheet steel.

Correct yes but I havent seen a secondhand guillotine for less than 5k yet, if a guillotine is rated for 3mm max will it struggle to cut 3mm?
