Thank you, I love learning.
and use cutting compound otherwise the drills wont last 5 minutesAlso remember when drilling or milling stainless you need to let the cutter work hard. Letting it rub will work harden the stainless and make it very hard to drill/cut with a normal HSS/HSSE drill. So relatively slow speed and plenty pressure to make the drill cut or if milling then fast(ish) feed.

Cutting compound ? Not oil, please explain.and use cutting compound otherwise the drills wont last 5 minutesusing compound you can drill loads of holes before resharpening them
Personally I learned from trial and error, lots of the latterGood information.
Thanks.
Where does one learn this stuff?
Work alot with A4 stainless 316L I think. Marine grade, like you. Wish I'd learnt this year's ago.
It can help but if I am honest I very rarely use it when drilling stainless. mill and lathe I usually have flood coolant.and use cutting compound otherwise the drills wont last 5 minutesusing compound you can drill loads of holes before resharpening them
I like the DRO, and the glass of wine, and the mill, hell, I like it all !Phase two of fitting the Sinpo DRO bought back in the lockdown to my POS milling machine, first fit up and trial of the X axis. This has spurred me on to get the other two axis done.

Nice steady idea, I hadn't thought of that line of attack, I like ++Hi,
I've just made a woodturning lathe center steady whilst it's poured with rain and been perishing outside; what a change to spend a few quality hours in the workshop hiding from the world's problems.
Kind regards, Colin.

Any excuse to do a bit of welding. I'm out of practice.

It's been wonderful playing with my toys.

The completed steady; skateboard wheels used. Long clamping handle and clamp make a decent mounting.

A bit of arc welding using my Pickhill Bantam; Not the best of welds but it's ages since I did any welding.

A neat out of the way clamp.

This should making turning things like goblets easier whilst hollowing; it's a perfect sliding fit between ways ensuring accurate alignment. Just a nice project with something useful at the end costing very little in monetary terms.
Looks suitably articulated.
How does that work out of interest?
Changes the hertz or voltage?
Curious... Thanks again Stuart.

You and me both!Sorry to divert this thread into how to drill holes, but obviously I'm on a steep learning curve this evening, thanks everyone, bear with me....
