I was wondering that, no offense intended Seadog but it does sound like the kind of unsubstantiated tosh the anti-Apple brigade come out with when the overpriced arguement doesn't quite cut it.

Comparing the build quality of my 1st gen iPad 2 (still in use) and my iPhone 4s to the modern equivalents the difference in build quality is night and day.


Mind you. Same could be said for Samsung.

I used Samsung for years but wouldn't go back now.

Can't say I could tell a difference build-wise between the iPhone 5 my brother had when I got my Galaxy S8, or between the same S8 and the iPhone 12 my housemate has just bought. They're all just glass and metal, how far wrong can they go?

S8 and XPS 15 for me, only Apple product I've ever had was a Second gen iPod Touch. I don't get on with tablets, had a crappy windows one for a while and I've played with mum's Tab. To me they're a clumsy middle ground lacking both the functionality of a laptop and the portability of a phone. Having said that, I would quite like to try a newer iPad (Or Tab I assume?) with the pen, I could see that being quite nice for taking notes.

Shock horror my three day old Macbook air is going back for replacement due to a firmware issue.

After spending a few hours on the phone and screen sharing with a couple of very pleasant Apple tech support ladies, and then with a very pleasant returns chap, it's been deemed user unfixable.

I said to the lady 'this is bad isn't it?' she just said 'Yes it is'

I'll update y'all when it's been sorted, which she was confident it would be by the time my replacement gets here.

The problem wasn't with the mac itself which was fine and amazingly fast.

The 'migration assistant' app failed to do it's job, which then led on to the 'configurator' app also not working, resulting in failure to boot, wouldn't go past a black screen.

If I had manually loaded my stuff over instead of using the app, this wouldn't have happened.

It's easy to read that and think that's an issue isolated to Apple when the reality is the world is moving so fast companies have to get products to the market ASAP. With much IT stuff even enterprsie level there will be firmware issue that did not show up in regular testing. The car same thing happens with cars, testing will involve millions of test miles yet they don't seem to be able to simulate what the general public may do.

Exactly, I'm cool with it, it's a disappointment but no real harm done.

Thats interesting...I had to send a MacBook air back recently which broke after 3 days! Still waiting for a refund from the retailer (was not apple)....it's starting to look like a court will be required!

Bit surprised at the shockingly poor service I got so far from a major electrical retailer....courts don't bother me at all so unfortunately for them this dog ain't letting go of the bone any time soon.

I've never used it before, I back up with Time Machine to external drive, don't have enough storage on iCloud to use that.

Just thought it would be easier to use MA, the issue I think is backward compatibility issues with MA and Config apps.

That's awful, I bought my previous one from such a place cos of a small discount, had no problems myself but afterwards I heard so many stories like yours that I decided to buy direct this time.

I can't fault Apple aftercare and the Apple shop is quite local, maybe cos I keep calm and polite, and am ok with digging a bit deeper into the problem with their guidance. Working the key four finger combinations to use config app under phone supervision takes a bit of concentration to say the least.
