Is there anything different between the Wurth bottles with a red top, and a black top?

No, I have both and the black ones are the newer version with a few raised surfaces making it easier to grip the container.

I have heard that Wurth in Europe have a different ethic than the outlets here in the UK. If you don't have an account here in the UK they will oftentimes let you use their "cash account" but it is pretty simple and straightforward to open an account online and just go into the store and order and pay pro-forma.

Wurth stuff isn't the cheapest, but very good quality.

From the above post about ebay, often the same price plus post or a bit more expensive so worthwhile trying to open an account.

Just search for solvent proof pump sprayer, you find loads that are made buy the same OEM as Wurth but the only difference is the ribs on the bottle. Going rate is about £18-20, you can even get them on Amazon for £18

You are just kidding yourself if you anything other than the real deal. My oldest brake cleaner bottle is 20+ years old and it's had brake cleaner in it for it entire life. The only time I've had an issue with one was on a really hot day a couple of years back when I left one in the back of my car and bottle split due to the pressure caused by the heat.

I buy 5L of brake cleaner for £7.50 if I buy 4 at a time. There is no way I'd be paying £20 a pop.

One top tip, whilst brake cleaner is pretty agressive on things like seals thinners will eat these brake cleaner bottles in no time. I filled one with thinners for cleaning my spray gun and it knackered it within a day.

You can buy seal kits for the Wurth ones too

Red top has seals suitable for solvents, black top doesn't, unless they've changed it in the past 6 months.
Autosmart sell the same, albeit with translucent bottles, but the pump/sprayer is identical, and the same colours apply. Black for detergents, red for solvents.

However I'd imagine the supplier will provide whatever seals you want in whatever colour you want if you're buying enough, and brake cleaner isn't actually that hard on seals as it's mostly alcohol, so you can probably get away with most bottles. It's things like oil based solvents that destroy seals. Nothing like some oil to melt rubber.

Apparently they have, The red pump pressurised sprayers now come in black. I believe you are thinking of the spray bottles like this which are not for solvents. If I am wrong (which I often am) my new black pressurised sprayers are suffering no ill effects from solvents.

Last batch of 500ml Normfest MC1 tins I got - have "acetone free" all over the front of them.

These were £1.55 each (inc vat) ex Europarts - when bought in bulk.

If you need thinners in it, spray guns etc use nylon for the sealing washers.I imagine these sprayers use viton rubber seals

MSDSs generally say "naptha", "petroleum distillates" and "hydrocarbons, alkanes and isoalkanes" - along those sort of lines.

It says acetone-free specifically because acetone eats most common elastomer seals, so it's handy to have a spray cleaner that doesn't. Acetone is a ketone so it reacts with materials slightly differently to other common solvents, I believe that's the explanation anyway.

How quickly does it tend to evaporate from the Wurth type pump bottles mentioned above if you leave them half full? (the ones you pump up, not the spray type)
And how quicky (if at all) does it evaporate out of a plastic bottle once the seal is broken if you put the cap back on securely?

Obvisouly the larger container you buy the cheaper it works out, but there's no point me buying a 5 ltr drum over 5x1 ltr bottles if half of it will have evaporated before I use it once the seal is broken...

The rate we get through it at work evaporation is not a problem, the bottles evaporate quicker, i.e. disappearing!

We had two new ones delivered today and 60ltr of brake cleaner, the boss will throw a fit when he sees the bill.

My 5L has not had any noticable evaporation.

I prefer aerosol cans in that they are smaller. They can easily be refilled with a 100ml syringe and butane. Reminds me I should order a 5L wd40, Im almost out. 19 quid is the cheapest I can see on ebay.

I have never noticed that it does. If you buy Wurths own brake cleaner it is now supplied in 1ltr bottles only? I buy 5ltr cans.

I've never found it exaporates in either the sprayer or the 5L bottles. It always used to come in metal can but I prefer the plastic ones. I often end up with 2-3 5L open at the same time with no issues. I have 3 pump sprayers with brake cleaner in

I think for many people the thought of spending £20 on a spray bottle is an issue. The crazy thing is when I bought my first one 20+ years a go I'm sure it was nearly £20 then.

It's amazing how often you use it once you have access to it at a sensible price.

Those Eurocarparts barrels are about £65, I think that's a bit pricey and I've never seen them on any of their special deals.
