Talk about subject wander, locks to peeing up the wall, this must be some sort of record. Still talking about peeing up the wall, when I was at primary school, there was a window high up, or it appeared high up to us. The big thing was to see if you could pee out of the window. Save it up all morning, point & squirt.............
we were polite, only aimed as high as the top of the urinal...

You was lucky to have windows - first two schools I went to had outside toilets for boys.
Enclosed walls with a long tiled urinal - no roof - two cubicles with proper toilets with half doors and no roof.
In the winter - the older lads had to help the caretaker dig the snow out of them. Our school caretaker must have been 90 - proper old man - fought in the war - only had one hand - other got blown off. He did more to stop school bullying than all the other teachers put together. Real nice chap.

On the subject of toilets - there are no public toilets anywhere now in the UK - can't see what is so wrong with open air urinals from "gentleman". In France and Holland I have seen them everywhere.

Tell that to the dog walkers. Unlike people engrossed on their phone, I keep my eyes on the sidewalk watching where I step; one consolation is that I've found quite a bit of money.

At primary school, the toilets were outside, but with a roof .... & the window ..... at secondary the toilets were outside with no roof. In the winter of 63 they were frozen for months, yellow snow anyone!

They closed a load when Blair brought in a new law saying they must all have disabled access. As it was too expensive to convert many of them the councils just closed loads.
Councils now use them as political bargaining tools. They close toilets so they can claim they need more money from the government
Very few left open in Wales - even in popular tourist areas

Some insurance companies cover lock replacement, but it may only be in the case of vehicle recovery after theft?

we still have between 50 and 60 in Argyll and Bute https://www.argyll-bute.gov.uk/find-public-toilet-argyll-and-bute
Though they had to close them all when Covid started and all the toilet rolls were stolen!
