Buying a few things lately and how once quality brand names are now made in China. Bosch, Metabo drill sets, Milwaukee drill and impact driver set. No doubt they are made to a standard.
China is capable of making quality products.Buying a few things lately and how once quality brand names are now made in China. Bosch, Metabo drill sets, Milwaukee drill and impact driver set. No doubt they are made to a standard.
Neighbour, a production manager, went to China various times over 2 years to set up production of a certain quality brand of pottery. He said as soon as your back was turned the Chinese found a simpler, quicker, cheaper way of making the product albeit at a lot less quality. Took a lot to get them on the right track so that the item was made to the same standard as the Uk version. Then his employer said "Thank you, your job has now gone to China so you are being made redundant " !Been in injection molding industry most of my working life. Used to do a 6/7 week stint for 3 years running out in China refurbishing £1 million a throw Husky PET machines. Tools and workshops were poor, we took our own technical equipment. What used to impress me was the abundance of labour at our disposal to help with the heavy jobs. They were all eager to learn.
We haven't been there this last 7 years.....they make the Husky machines and tooling in Shanghai now!!
My mate was supposed to be going to China as as weld inspector etc back just after Christmas. This because of previous quality issues. Due to Covid his firm decided he could do it over Zoom/Teams.
There's him talking to the translator who conveys what my mate wants measuring to check tolerances. He reckons they were just moving the tape to and zooming in on the required measurement! No way would they zoom out so you see where the end of the tape was!
Of course his firm are spouting on social media how good the relationship is and what great quality. The reality is when it's delivered they have to do loads of rework.
Hi, Well yes and no, it's the chicken and the egg question. If the Chinese didn't make the tat the importers couldn't buy it and if the importers weren't buying the Chinese wouldn't make it because there's no profit. Plus there's the great unwashed buying on price alone.

I've been trying to buy things made in UK or at least not made in china and it's very difficult. You're lucky if you can even find out where it's made most of the time. Some things are impossible! After a carb rebuild kit for a crf70 and only Amazon and eBay seem to do them. It's £28 for a rebuild kit or £16 for a complete carb ! I decided to buy an ultrasonic cleaner and clean them up instead but all the 'made in uk' ones seem to be rebranded ones from China, or everything comes from China and is knocked together in the UK. I'm beginning to think if I can't beat them join them and get it off eBay for half the price!!
I'm not really a greenie but it would be great if this 'green revolution' meant more stuff was made here instead of shipped around the world but I thing things will stay the same it's just the stuff that will change.
