Buy mitutoyo.I'm looking for a digital vernier that offers the most bang for buck. Accuracy and quality. Yes I know I can buy a used mitutoyo for £50, but im looking for the hidden gems in the £20 or under range new or used. Is anyone able to comment?
I gather with only £20 to splash out the accuracy is not top of the agenda...with this in mind all of the generic sub £20 verniers from Aldi and other outlets are just fine and offer high accuracy and build quality enough for hobby use.I'm looking for a digital vernier that offers the most bang for buck. I find that my cheap digi always needs a battery when I pick it up , i never remember to take it out , but my Mitu never seems to need a battery ,, strange but true.
I have the Lidl one and it kills a battery every 3 months. My old Mitutoyu also kills batteries by it was given to me so I keep it for sentimental reasonsI find that my cheap digi always needs a battery when I pick it up , i never remember to take it out , but my Mitu never seems to need a battery ,, strange but true.
My Lidl one is still on original battery after about 3 years - I had a Moore and Wright one before that and it would go through a battery a month. It’s bang on accurate compared to my starrett one too - I’d happily splash a tenner on another if it failed.I find that my cheap digi always needs a battery when I pick it up , i never remember to take it out , but my Mitu never seems to need a battery ,, strange but true.
because the cheap ones still use a bit of power when turned off the expensive ones don'tI find that my cheap digi always needs a battery when I pick it up , i never remember to take it out , but my Mitu never seems to need a battery ,, strange but true.

The lidl/aldi ones are suprisingly accurate accross gauge blocks. Batteries last ok and cheap enough. Just need go keep them dry. When they go wrong, a fresh battery and spray of wd40 will fix.
I could use a couple more, havent seen them in shops for a while.
Ask @Parm how he’s getting on with the one he bought, same thread earlier this year
