Production welders

When i used to do lots of bits like that, the plate was always HRP&O (Hot rolled, pickled and oiled)

Ah, you're probably right then!
The levers i weld on the bar are made in our factory, sheet comes in on huge rolls...the oil on it is often a pain tho.. luckily my oerli doesn't make too much of a fuzz about the oil.....the old commercy's we had before don't like it at all!

A small amount of oil is handy sometimes Saves using antispatter
Makes for a lot of fume though

Yeah well, that's often the problem at our plant.....the different jigs they have for the different parts they make on the big presses are old and crappy (most of them) so the operators toss in loads of oil.....

Hehe, no my welding set doesn't have a name but i take good care of it, that's all!

Tacker strikes again!

Had a torch bought in for repair, "I think it needs a new switch"





How the heck did he do it? replaced body and switch, fitted new liner and put into stock ready for next time.

N.B. damage was done by "tacker", NOT production welder OK Sparkey

I've got quite some respect for production welders, i know i couldn't do it. A company i used to work for making mining machinery, they used to get thorough like 5-6 reels of wire a shift. I'd be lucky to that a year now.

Never found out how it happened, one of the agency welders, "it was like that when I picked it up", considering he had been using it for half a shift it must have been the "melting fairy" did it while his back was turned

Ah yess! the melting fairy!!
We have some of those idiots running around at the plant too at the mo!

I snapped last friday..... one of those "fine lads" had to go find the maintenance guy to repair his jig....then i saw him watching the maintenance do his repair....with his hands in his pockets!!!!
I really got insane.... I'm a very patient person but there are limits, he's been doing this kinda stuff since he started out sooo my patience is starting to wear thin!

LOL Best thing he told us last week when we asked why he f'ed up again was: Uuuh, i wasn't thinking.....

The reason why we prefer to bolt the work return to the welding benches..





I even found one welding booth where the welder ("tacker") had supplemented the bolted return (connected to high inductance) with a clamp type plugged into low inductance! don't know how it affected the welding

Ooow! that looks familiar...tell them if they really need it to take a scrap piece to do that! It's horrible! But there are loads of welders who do this, i only do it when i need light when i have to weld inside a pedalbox when i can't see where i'm welding....
It's just a bad habit if you ask me....

Being Yorkshire born and bread I'm tighter than two coats of paint but that seams harsh even too me. I'd much rather see a £2 earth clamp ruined than tacks all over the side of the benches.
