Tool for pulling audi spreader rivets

I need to remove the boot liner on my tt to run a cable

The fixing is a spreader rivet about 40mm down a hole

Audi tool is this



I really don't want to spend £200 on a pair

Anyone know what the tip profile is or got a non oem version?

Or a suggestion to pull the pin? Long nose pliers maybe?

does the centre just push out? Iv never had the need to remove them on an Audi but with land rovers that have the plastic ones fitted I just use a rivet to push the center straight through

@mike os Even if you damage the fixings I can't believe they're expensive to replace?

would the centre pin not just push through ., if not drill the top with a drill bit in the cordless till it does , then when you put it back together just use a self tapping screw instead , next time you can unscrew the screw and lift it out with a magnet .

As above some centre pins move inwards a bit to remove the fastener. When fastener is out out you just reset it to stand proud and fit then push pin flush.

These are designed to be removed, its the only fixing on the boot lid liner. Its not a plastic flush fitting the head sits above the rivet

Its also down 25mm dia hole 40 deep or so

Looks chunky.... might have to mod some needle nose pliers but have no idea of the pin profile

order a bag of replacement rivets


when you have them to hand every single one of them will come out perfectly .




seems to be that way for me , the moment you dont have any , they all break ...

but messing aside , it will give you some to perfect your pliers design on as well as some spares.

Might have too, there must be a non audi/snap on version but I can't find one

If you do order new clips from your main dealer, ask price of pliers (I have found them to be cheaper than advertised online) if price is still too much ask whether they'll remove the clip for you

pennington forceps has to be a good starting point at two pounds fifty pence. rub with a flap disc to sharpen the end ,

If you don't mind destroying the clip, drill centre and use a woodscrew to extract.

I have had to do this on the white Audi square profile ones that hold the bumpers on.

To be honest - when you get into taking Audi cars apart - it is hard to believe they come from a similar factory to VW/Skoda products.

Some of the later ones you need a 17mm allen type key to get the rear lights out to change a bulb?

tps in chester is closer than audi... dont know if they will have that particular part though
