Does this look like galvanised to you?

Bought some galvanlised angle brackets for outdoor fixings, but they seem very shiny. Do these look like galvanised to you fine folks?

They do attract magnets - is that a measure?

Yes, electro zinc plated. Not very good for outdoor use if left in the rain

I've had plenty of stuff like this, described as "galvanised", obviously electroplated rather than hot dip. But if galvanised means "coated in zinc" then they get away with it :-(

Interestingly, the packing slip refers to them as "galvanised silver", which I presume means the colour! I'd be happy with galvanised grey...

Anyways, filed a return on ebay and the automated system says that the seller must provide me with a return slip by 14th October, so that seems like it's done and dusted...

More than likely the seller is ignorant to the product they sell. Did you order the oval holes as an optional extra?

If it doesn't specifically say hot dip galvanised (HDG) it probably isn't...

Galvanised definition is just coated in zinc.

They look like every bodger bracket I've ever seen. Roughly stamped and EPZ. What were you expecting?

Were you seeking Eliza Tinsley type farmer brackets?

they can do a hot spray zinc but I think you still get the pattern.

Probably exactly the same thing.

I've been known to find the odd thing which is very cheap at screwstation and then list them on ebay at %100 markup.

Any dispute over their definition of galvanised can be followed up with a similar one about the absence of silver

Interestingly enough, looks like the ebay seller knows his galvanised processes! Got this, today:

They are two types of galvanisation : cold (passivation - zinc coating) and hot dip galvanisation.

I have sent you prepaid return label by email, the same you have used with paypal.
The parcel can be dropped at any Post Office.

But there's a return label so high marks (so far) to the seller!
