Need Some ~2mm Sheet Steel - Sheffield/Chesterfield/Doncaster

I need some sheet steel to make some patch panels for some car body work. Does anyone know of anywhere around Sheffield/Chesterfield/Doncaster that would do say 1mx1m of it for reasonable money?

I used Hillsborough steel stock, they were more than happy to deal with me as an individual without an account etc.

I got mine from Far lane car spares in Rotherham. It was about £15 for a thin sheet -size 1100mm x 600mm. Tel 01709 363763, or Hilsbrough like Luke says (if you want thicker material).

Also, another place that you could try:Northern Fabs (sells off-cuts from shearing jobs sent to them by Hilsbrough steel stock) 0114 2343003. Will cut small amounts of plate to the precise size you require-ask for Chris)

If you can get as far as Matlock you could try Twiggs but they aren't the cheapest unless you buy more at once. 2mm sounds a bit extreme for car bodywork, even chassis is not that thick.

Panels from an old fridge/freezer/washing machine/cooker etc do quite nicely
I must learn to read.....sorry.... its 2mm plate you require...

Car spares shop near us sells 18g for car repairs in various sizes but it's a lot thinner than 2mm.

I use Twiggs all the time, but you should PM WeldingScotty on here. I understand he's rather helpful in this area and is North Chesterfield I think.

Aww, you should have dropped in. (sorry don't want to hijack the thread) Yes, but unfortunately broken at the second. Stripped the teeth off the diff at the weekend. So good opportunity to give it a fettle all round. Brakes all in bits now!

cheers guys, I've just mirometered the front panel i'm needing to modify working one and it's actually 1.2mm~1.25mm not 2mm, my guestimate was waaay off

I work in Doncaster but live in Eckington (between Sheffield and Chesterfield)so its either a case of trying to find somewhere near Donny that i could get to in lunchtime or somewhere that would be open on a Saturday nearer my home

Has Hamer Goodlad shut down ? They used to be a good supplier and reasonable prices too right on your doorstep.

yeah Hamer Goodlad has i pass it everyday on the way to work. I got some thick plates from there to go in my hydraulic press.

Some toerags have burnt down the office buildings as well in the last month or so!
