Got a case of 2-stroke oil and a brain bucket for when the Bantam arrives. Purchased 6 litres and expected it to come in a single container, but happy they sent 12 half litre bottles.
Yesterday I acquired a vintage petrological microscope for my Niece's daughter. She is doing exceptionally well in school for a kid of her age and is very interested in geology. Bought the instrument off of ebay, which is in like new condition. The optics are clear and its complete with all relevant accessories; an awesome find. These microscopes have multiple features, and can be used for observing rocks, minerals, metallurgy, and regular bright-field study. It will be an unexpected gift for her.

Two pairs of new to me speakers, B&W DM610s and Tannoy F4 customs, currently in the living room to test on my housemate's Sony amp but I'll buy my own soon. Undecided whether I should go for stereo or find even more speakers and go surround sound.
Haven't had the B&Ws on much yet but first impressions of the Tannoys is they're bloody good, fifty quid well spent.
It's an ex-display Behringer A800, I was a bit worried when I took it out the box, it weighs next to nothing but it's honestly scary powerful. They don't explicitly say it anywhere but that 800 watts is peak so even if it's only around 200 watts RMS per channel, the speakers are only rated for 140w, it's safe to say I'll be bloody careful with those gain knobs.
Notice where the knobs are just to get those first (-30dB) level indicators lit, that was offensively loud and I was grinning ear to ear. 
It's got RCA, TRS and XLR inputs, binding post and Speakon outputs but do you think I thought to buy any cables. 
Had to cut an RCA cable in half and solder it to a 3.5mm jack cut off some old earbuds, then wire the speakers in with a bit of 1.5mm mains flex. 
Sounds good to my ears at least. Part of the reason I went for it over something more conventional is it can be wired in "Bridge" mono for 800 watts into 8 ohm, ideal for a honkin' great subwoofer...
Obviously music sounds horrible with no cabinet or crossover but I had to see the cone move, a 20Hz test tone from YouTube had it moving about 1/2" and shook my floor.

wire the speakers in with a bit of 1.5mm mains flex.
Get some 2.5mm t+e.
Go on - you're worth it.
Buy it from b&q for that "torn a new donkey hole" music-phile shop feeling.

Audio snobs look down on Behringer gear but I find it to be perfectly adequate for my needs. I have a few Behringer vocal processors as and when I feel the need to use them. They were bought mainly to get a studio mike sounding the way I wanted it on various radios.
Ironically, they don't sound any better on the auld Icom than a simple Koss gaming headset plumbed directly into it.

I was gonna get some off Amazon with some banana plugs to keep it neat but this picture didn't inspire a lot of confidence in their product.
Maybe I'm being too picky, just because you have banana plugs doesn't mean you have to use them.
Audio snobs look down on everything.
They won't like it when I plug in a Raspberry Pi rather than thousands of pounds of streamers and DACs to listen to Spotify. They definitely won't like the speakers either side of my desk like they're studio monitors either. Behringer is certainly good enough for me.

Previously involved in lots of live AV jobs and Behringer is great. Whilst it works...
A few years ago they bought Midas which was top class kit. Now you can buy the same product in both brands. But they put proper Neutrik connectors on the Midas one so they last more than a single use..
Excellent value for money. However not reliable enough for anything important.

I see what you mean if stuff's being plugged/ unplugged often, but fortunately that use case doesn't apply here.
Just keep my fingers crossed the electronics stay the course, and even if they don't it's cheap enough to buy replacement units.

It's got a three year warranty on it, in three years I'll probably have found something new to play with anyway.

A 31 metre roll of Life line with a snap-shackle. Was surprised as it seems to be a natural fibre rather than a modern equivalent, anyway, a bargain at £16.oo
