I had a nasty incident the other day flailing a field hedge. I managed to clip a fence post, bits went EVERYWHERE and I was covered in shattered safety glass as two side windows of the tractor cab broke.

SO - I decided to replace the safety glass with 6 mm Polycarbonate - if it's good enough for riot shields it's good enough for me.

Ebay order placed (a company not an individual) and the order due from delivery Thursday came the following Monday - not a good start!

Unwrapping it carefully I took off the layers of corrugated cardboard, followed by layers of bubble wrap - all nicely done. Then I came to a layer of black pallet wrap holding the two sheets together - gently lifting it away from the Polycarbonate I was horrified to see multiple deep cuts in the surface as though it had been used as a backing board for cutting with a Stanley knife. None of the wrappings were damaged so it must have been damaged before it was wrapped

I stopped unwrapping at this point and took multiple photographs and telephoned the suppler who point blank refused to do anything about it - the bay person wasn't available - must raise it through eBay

So I did a 'contact seller' on ebay included photographs and got the response that it was inspected before dispatch, was undamaged so it must be a carrier problem (Note No packing was damaged in any way) and I'd have to raise a 'case'

OK done that - eBay won't get involved until the 10th - and seller still maintains goods were inspected before sending and he had pictures (not forthcoming !).

Meanwhile I have a windowless tractor, a half cut hedge and a bit of deeply scratched polycarbonate and am seething !

Go down the local hardware store, buy any perspex is a result before this boils over.

Never had any luck with plastic glass, in time it always goes milky or brittle. Better to replace the glass and guard it up.

Polycarbonate stays clear for quite a few years. When I moved into my new building the local toerags thought it was clever to hurls bricks through the windows at night. I had polycarbonate put in and had ordered grills but they hadn't been fitted yet. That night one of the toerags apparently hurled a brick at one of the front windows and it bounced back at the same velocity and hit him in the face, seriously injuring him. Never had any further problems though.

PetG will actually 'self heal' scratches with a bit of heat applied, but it's rather soft and wobbly in big sheets

I would bet the farm this is the same company I ordered a good number of Polycarbonate sheets from a couple of years back. Very carefully wrapped up for transport but all of them looked like they had been cut with an axe. And no two the same size even though they should all have been identical.

I don't think id be carrying on if you didn't have a protective screen fitted remember someone getting a steel spike fly in and lodged in his scull and just missed his brain

Polycarbonate is the stuff, used to fit it as side windows in security trucks.

Acrylic/perspex stays clearer and is harder to scratch, but is more brittle than polycarbonate.

There are ballistic resistant grades too, which are laminated from different types, a more scratch resistant layers with a shock absorbing typ in between.

Damage like that can also be caused by the saw monkeys some of these places employ, its horrible stuff to cut one chip between the sheet and the bed of the pannel saw as they drag the sheets rather than lifting can easily cause a scratch.

My dad used to tell a similar tale from the early 70's - local church kept windows daamged - my dad suggested makalon cover panels . . . next kid to chuck a brick coped it in the head as it bounced back . . . his mother had a right go at the vicar for protecting his windows . . .

That is completely unacceptable. I'd be asking the Seller to supply his pics ASAP.

I wouldn’t want to use a flail with anything less, people throw all sorts of nasty things in hedges.
