I've had a 54 plate Disco 3 from 2 yrs old and 5k miles. Its now on 120K and I guess the value is about 3k on a good day. Over the years I guess it hasn't been too bad on maintenance, with a few exceptions. I aim to keep it on the road for another 2 years if possible. Mechanically and bodywork wise its in good nick, apart from the odd small ding. Its the farm work horse but now my girls are in different high schools about 45 mins apart with winter coming then we will need both cars working reliably.
When it was out of warranty I moved to a LR specialist, not cheap but they didn't do the flow chart part swapping fault diagnosis that main dealers do so they tend to find and fix the fault. The specialist seemed to find faults I never knew existed and it was costing more to maintain so I eventually moved on to local garages, but I would pre-diagnose the issue with likely cause on the Disco 3 forum first to give them a hand.
This has worked well until I had the compressor swapped out about 8 months ago. There is now an intermittent suspension fault, and the results can be a bit random but sometimes it goes right down onto its bump stops. Stop and restart and off it goes again. There was a well known issue with the an intermittent connection on a front nearside loom connector, I've already had that and fixed it.
I did briefly toy with the idea of swapping it out for something else, but I do like the thing so bought an OBD fault code reader, the iCarsoft LR v2.0. Cost about 130 quid but they go for not much less second hand so once I move the car on I'll stick it on ebay.
The idea is to see what alarms are there, take it on a drive to provoke the issue, capture them and do a bit of research on the Disco 3 forum to see if it has been seen before then give the info to my mate Howard who is great with Subaru's and has been good on the Disco up to now. He didn't swap the compressor, that was a LR specialist.
Any tips on use of the reader would be great, its probably not the best but sounds like its good value for the money. I've looked at the usual youtube vids etc. The reader is due on Monday.
Cheers
Andy
