I'm all confused

I cancelled my BOC rental and went over to Air Liquide - said that I want to rent a large bottle of gas for MIG welding similar to BOC's Argoshield.

They gave me something called Arcal 14 and it's a Ar/CO2/O2 mix.

Will this mix be OK for hobbyist purposes - I normally use the MIG for thin sheet metal welding and the max amp my unit can push out is 150 Amp.

I do'nt even know if my regulator is going to work on this bottle - will check tonight when I'm at home.

Regulator should not be an issue......Arcal sounds like Argoshield universal to me........should work but Argoshield 5 would be my choice. Where are you in RSA? Air products are pretty good.

Air Products normally have gas gauge incorporated with bottle, assuming we are talking of same company?

I'm in George. Did'nt want to break the seal but it seems the regulator will fit, yes.

runnach, no the regulator is'nt included - in their brochure I saw an Arcal/Argon bottle with builtin regulators but not the one I've got.

I'm paying 1/3rd now of what I paid Afrox/Boc in 2003 for Argon rental.

I have'nt Migged in .... ~6 years - I'll start off by doing a welding cart.

Oh, my wire spool, also more than 6 years old, has got a very very slight rust film. You have to look carefully to spot it. Is it OK if I just clean the top of the spool vigorously with acetone.

I hate to spend money on MIG wire just now. I have too many items to buy for my other projects.

You are better off stripping off the rusty wire 'til you get to shiney stuff as rusty wire will ruin your liner / tip.
