Easy enough job, when you can get the wheels off!
Son asked me to change the drop links, I’m on holiday. Agreed to do them
Went out this morning to get them done. Wheel nuts are seven sided Mac guard ones, of course they are worn as is the socket. Got one off, it gets stuck in the socket. Eventually get it out. The other four nuts just spin in the socket. Ok I’ll drive a 15mm socket on and get new normal nuts. Every nut had to be driven out of the socket, 10 min job turned into an hour job to get two wheels off. The drop links were a doddle

Think number one son knew there would be issues!

Still, I suppose when he has a puncture on one of the wheels at the other end, he will find out

I hate locking / anti theft nuts. With most cars now having alloys as standard, IMO, theft of wheels is no longer a serious risk so why bother with trying to keep something nobody would consider nicking on a car. I bought a Polo for my son and it got a puncture, so tyre flat when parked in the drive, only to find the locking key was missing and the car was off the road for nearly a week whilst a new key came in the post.

Still, I suppose when he has a puncture on one of the wheels at the other end, he will find out

I’m having to order new nuts. Next wheel change will be straight forward

I dislike them too. It’s the first thing I change when i buy a car.

Oddly enough, I just found one such locking wheel bolt in the drive outside my house. Obviously fell off a passing vehicle, as my Mundano has boring steel wheels.

@Migmac Alot of motor factors keep them on the shelf

Most garages bin the lockers for standard nuts or bolts

normal wheels are not stolen but the cost of aftermarket big wheels fetch a high premium

in my car club Iv heard of a few lads having one or all nicked

It's probably you leaving them on bricks

Should have seen me yesterday rotating my tyres & swapping out one of the ones close to the legal limit. Block of wood, Scissor Jack (Yes I know I should have bought my bottle jack) & threw the spare wheel under the van just incase. Must of taken me double what it would of taken me with a proper jack

a while ago I had the wife's X3 up on the ramp to change the pads, could I find the locking wheel key, nope, asked her, nope, then I remembered I binned them when we got it!

a while ago I had the wife's X3 up on the ramp to change the pads, could I find the locking wheel key, nope, asked her, nope, then I remembered I binned them when we got it!

locking wheel bolts and tyre shops are not a good mix,

It was tyre fitters that broke the key on my daughters Fiesta. No room to work on them, the professional lock removal tool wouldn’t do it either. Ended up buying a new key for £50. New non locking nuts were fitted the same day

It’s the same in every job/ industry I would guess.
