Plumbing Question, what is this drip?

Just had a thought, assuming you are not in the middle of nowhere, are the houses around you the same (as in built by the same developer)? Perhaps chapping a few doors might reveal something. If you have his problem perhaps a neighbour has had it too?

when I bought my house the whole aria was waterlogged .seemed to be coming of the railway the council the waterboard and the railways didn't want to know it baffled them that was when I dug round the house and fitted the land drain and ran it to a sump near by. about 200 gallons a day went down it for 6 month till it got sorted my old water feed went on to the railway station before coming back on to my property apparently I put a new main in and the water stopped in 15 minutes

One morning a few years ago woke up and the downstairs was flooded with water running in a joint between the wall and floor in the 2nd utility room, the way the house is built there's earth up against that wall to a decent height so got the digger in and dug it away and stopped the water, plan was too dig a drain along the wall and into a pipe. There was a down pipe a couple of meters away so headed for that, got there and found the downpipe was just dug into the ground and no pipe, there was another downpipe on the other side of the patio and the sinks from main utility room also went into that pipe, got there with the digger and again the pipes stopped a foot below ground level, next downpipe was round the corner of the house so rather than make the mistake of getting there to find no pipe we dug down at the pipe and this time there was a bend and into a pipe, so we continued on our new drain but where we should have cut into the existing pipe we couldn't find it, we started following the existing pipe from the house and it only went 1m and stopped so we ended up having to dig a whole new pipe in and connect up 4 of the 6 downpipes for the house, garden has never been so dry.

Had a funny situation once where I'd cleaned the gutters out on the old bungalow , thought I'd slip a running hose in the down pipe to flush things through before putting the hairy caterpillar stuff in the top of the down pipe & in the gutter . I ended up stuffing almost 10 mtrs of hose in the down pipe
Opened the first manhole near to the drain pipe .... no running water .. did the same to all other four manholes on the property no running water but I could hear running water when I lifted what I thought was an unused manhole next door with no running water in it nor did it ever look like it had ever been wet .

There could be soakaways for the surface water drainage. If that's the case, you might be eligible for a rebate on sewage charges, if on a mains drainage system, since these normally assume there is surface water coming from the property.

Turned out to be a 8'x6'x14'deep hole partially under the house.

I didn't sleep well for a few nights because of that one.

That was my conclusion the ground four feet down was sand & gravel for the next forty metres or more . That's part of the reason we sold up and came here, at least the dead closed up coal mines are supposed to be mapped & records thoroughly checked before new builds of the last 40 year & later were allowed to be built .....allegedly.

The semi I just sold had the whole of the paved front yard, plus the roof of both houses, plus the attached garage roof, all going into a soak away in my back yard. I contacted Severn Trent to get a rebate on ‘surface water removal’, but all they told me was ‘prove it’.

I didn’t really want to get them out to physically investigate, as I had recently built myself a new concrete garage...
...right over the top of a main public sewer.

1) Lift the manhole cover(s) for your drains and get someone to pour water down each of the guttering downpipes whilst watching for flow in the manholes. Take pictures.
or 2) Wait until it rains quite hard. Take pictures showing the rain and lack of flow down the manhole(s).

Send pictures to Severn Trent.

The bungalow I have now moved to apparently has a soakaway too, so I may have a look into it, one of my neighbours mention it just last night. They told me it is underneath the garage, which may explain why there is a sort of breather/stench pipe on the outside of it.
