anyone bought shares in phone company's . they must be making a fortune everyone you phone has you on hold for 20 minutes

dwp phone lines are 50 mins to one hour your lucky if you get it any earlier

as ive timed it often when others have phoned them

Not phone companies but hosting services are making a killing during all this. I heard of one place that paid £12k to host a conference call for 450 staff. It lasted 90 minutes

Other companies making a killing are the ones doing on line conferences and seminars. Im involved with something and organizing a conference in September. the society is shelling out £42k for two days of webhosting

another money making scam we've been slowly conditioned to accepting as a society................I understand there are ongoing maintenance and upkeep costs etc , but the why would companies be giving away free texts and minutes if the actual costs were negligible..........line rental, another thing that bugs me...............never use the landline at home, but got to pay rent for 10m of copper buried in the pavement outside so i can get "free" calls on whatsapp/online

The biggest single cost for the "Webinar" type conference is security. There have been some really high profile instances of hacks during the conference call/webinar or after getting the delegates details. My youngest is into "data security" and his future is absolutely secure (no pun intended). Some firms are charging big money for some of the "Security Features".

Its definitely a secure job!
A lot of security companies also employ "hackers" they claim they are too find weaknesses so they can make the system more secure. The fact that they find the weaknesses in the first place can't do the company's profits any harm from publicising these weaknesses and drumming up a bit of scaremongering.
I wonder how many of the high profile hacks/data breaches have been carried out by a team of paid workers with in depth inside knowledge of the particular security system in operation?...

I've just unplugged my land line, as I suddenly started getting 2 or 3 'blind calls' every morning.

Either 'sorry, you just missed a call from...' if I speak.

Or it just hangs up after 2 seconds if I don't.

Of course, fake number supplied each time.

The only person who knows that number is my dad, and BT...until now....

I let ours ring a fair while before answering if its someone using an auto dialer others pick it up 1st if anyone rings me that's important they generaly ring twice

And the phantom caller who is using a computer to sequentially dial your number on the list of hacked data. Checking to see if you're at at home , to work out their prospects for doing your place or bank account over .
