what rod to use for a overhead fillet on 10mm steel?

I have 601 in various sizes or 7018 in 2.6

Depends on application but realistically 6013 would be more than suffice.

I find 7018 far nicer and easier to use for positional work, including overhead. (Not that I do that much overhead or am any good at it)
What sort of weld are you doing? If it's a full prep butt, 2.6 are a bit small but will certainly do the job.
Keep a short arc and they will work great.

I've used both 6013s and 7018s for positional welding and of the two, I prefer 7018s. My memory may be adrift on this but I think I recall specific 6013s for vertical-up and overhead work - the name Vertex rings a bell as an example. These rods could also be used in the flat position but were next to useless welding vertical-down even on a slight incline.

I'm not so great in overhead welding but 7018 is surely better than 6013 for the application .
I might suggest 3.2mm at 120A and what is quoted in this message
Tight arc and enough current to keep the arc going

i have done the job now it was a 152 RSJ I had to use 6013s as I only had those in 3.2s, 120A was the sweet spot 110 was a bit cold 140 was a bit hot but it is welded and in place now looks awsome pics to follow

That is a name I remember. Can't recall who made them though.

Murex, still available but expensive now I think.
I remember using them years ago and seem to remember they had a distinctive (not unpleasant) smell and laid down a very nice flat bead.

Can’t remember what I had for breakfast though!

BOC used to make them in the dim and distant past, Vodex, Murex, and Fastex.

Yep, had all of those in a holder at one time or another. Used Fastex to weld the seams, inside and out, on the drums I'd rolled to make land rollers.
